I've been searching the past few days for a ~2000w RMS amplifier around the $200 price range. Here's a couple amps I'm torn between:

Audiopipe AP1800D - rated at 1800w rms @ 1ohm --- 180-200$

Hifonics HiFi2000D - Rated at 2000w rms @ 1 ohm --- 200-230$

Quantum Audio QA4000D - Rated at 2000w rms @ 1 ohm --- 220-240$

These are not top of the line amps no doubt, but which of these three would most likely put out the cleanest signal, do close to rated power and most efficiently?

And any other ideas on other amps around this price range around 2kw rms? (No more than $250)

try to find a good used or refurbished amp. Sometimes there are great deals to take advantage of.

But any of those 3 you've listed will do the job !

Take a look at db-r.com.

1500 or 2000 watts : you won't hear any difference in output. Don't be dead set on a 2000 watts mark.

Good luck and merry Xmas.

I prefer to go with less power, higher quality and reputation.

And considering the human ear and its insensitivity that is a great idea...and yes I still have amps that were used in 2010 that I bought in 1991.

I want to start a revolution, call it; "its not about the power". Yes, we (SSA) do build a few higher power handling sub woofers, but people will never see tell someone you have to have rms power. For the real world in daily driving systems, the urge people have to run the most power possible is getting out of hand I think. Shag, I am not criticizing you at all, just speaking in general. I know as an online audio store owner, I should be saying buy the biggest amp possible for mark up purposes, but just a few years ago when power was not so cheap, almost no one was destroying their sub woofers. Now there is this mind set that most drivers will need a recone at some point.

For example for my uses, I would prefer to get something like a ZED instead of a HiFonics. Yes, the HiFoincs has triple the ratted power and is 3x the foot print, but it no longer has the pedigree and does not give me the warm fuzzies in terms of quality performance and durability. :)
