Q`s about box for mag15

Recommended Posts

hello.

i`m thinking about the box and not sure what size ports would be oki. i got everything from 6" to 14" tubes with nice flares to use.. ;)

there`s about 16cuft total for the box (-spacesaver..18cuft max) they say, but have to calculate myself.. i just got the car..

they say also bigger the better (on music) but i would say it gotta stop sometime.. :)

anyone got 3 of these 15" thingys in a wall, or in a car at all...? could be fun to see what others have done..

the amps not found yet, but guess around 1,5 @12V on each..btw, is that enough to do music oki, and somtimes spl....?

almost forgot, the car is a ford...: (random car/pic from web, but exactly the same car..)

thanks,

Stig

Welcome to the forum first off.

For the 15s, you'll want anwywhere from 3.5-4.5 cubes vented each. Vent area, about 12-15sq.inches per cube.

You should be safe with that power, but BE CAREFUL. Fried coils are not covered by warranty. You really won't need that much power though. With that amount of drivers and space, anywhere from 500 to 1000 per driver is more than enough.

thanks fo having me ;)

is that 3.5~4,5 + port disp...?

so then ill say 3 x 4cuft = 12 x 13,5sq port = 162sq of fun ;)

oki ill calculate from that.

thanks ;)

as i say about power...you dont need to use it just because you have it.. ;)

i guess the gain would be set to about 1kw, so i`ll be safe at "full" volume...

i thought about adding ports giving higher tuning for spl...dunno how the mag`s do at spl but could be fun to try..haha...

and i have a dusin different ways to mount the subs.. any better then the other..?..

port on top, subs in line at bottom..

outer subs at bottom, middle sub a bit higher, one port each side over the outer subs..

middle sub at bottom outer sub a bit higher one big port in the middle..

etc etc etc...

btw, i just sent SI / Nick a mail, shipping cost Q`s.. (just in case they read this first ;) )

edit. tho the 27hz tuning recommended is kind a looow...or what..?

welcome to the site,

yeah for more output you are going to want to tune a little higher than 27hz, but to what I am not exactly sure

You'll have to experiment with your vehicle to find what suits your tastes best and what works bets with the application.

Generally a low tune will yield a flatter response, but this will also translate into an exagerrated lowend when loaded into the vehicle due to it's transfer function. This can also play havoc with your frequency response as well.

As for the enclosure size, the 3.5-4.5 cubes will be NET, or after driver and vent displacements are subtracted.

hello :)

i think i`ll go for a calculated box 350L , 33hz..dunno why 33 but take it from there ;)

finding the perfect tuning, a tuning that fits my needs, and car, could be a pain in the ass with slot port..

so i`m prob gonna use 8" tubes, as they are easy to cut and extend. 3 8" tubes is about 150sq.in, and in theory, should have less noise then slotport, same size..

it could be 10" tubes, depend on the lenght.

what power does the mag handles on music and/or burps ...?

Power handling will be dependant upon the enclosure. Daily, I wouldn't put more than the RMS (950watts) in a big box. That's just me though. I hate recommending power levels because I don't truly know the other person's competence. Please don't take that the wrong way. The "correct" person who probably through pretty much anything they wanted through the driver and still have it live, while the "wrong" person could blow it with very little power.

hello.

ive been talking to a guy using and a guy who`s distributing Earthquake.

ive been thinking about using the phd5000 @1.33ohm and i guess it will give some decent power to the mag`s,

i aint a noob............just a noob when it comes to mag`s ;)

looks like i`ll be using 45kg(what i ordered) of damping (not noise killer but similar and better)

plus some(=alot) of expanding-foam to "lock" the box to the car, so its no rattling here and there..i hope..

i`ll be using three 100ah/900A batteries + the same one up front.

two lenghts of 90mm2/(00awg?) cable

havent got a decent alternator yet, but its gonna be a 250A or two 140A in paralell with a nice regulator(?) clamed doing 14.6V "all the time"..it got batt heat sensor and stuff..

and no split charge..

oh..and the polished 8" tubes (ports) looks nice :D

oh..and here`s the wall template that i made to see how it all fits.

box is being made out of 3/4" mdf, two and three layers..wherever it needs it.

little car??? :finger:

my 105hp 1.6L kicks ass :D

its more of a question if it got enough juice to drive them around ;)

alternator is up to about 280A if i get to fit them in, and four 100A batt`s should do.

((and i got a 200A/400A charger to put on at nights and shows ;) ))

i hope its enough.......

Hey, can you send me a photo of your alt? I'm curious as to if Ford is using their own alts over there or Bosch or Valeo.

have no pics, and now not near the car ;) but i think its abosch on it since its a german made car.

(cant se what make because the sticker is off..)

but no problem to use a bosch on the/a ford. i`ve used bosch from vw/audi/ford on my bmw ;) now i`m gonna use two 140A alt`s from bmw 535/m5 on the ford..if i make them fit..hehe..

if not i guess i`ll have to buy a 250A form EA.

btw, valeo is just crap..with its internal regulator its no use..cant mod it easy :(

Hard pressed to find an alt without one anymore. Even the Bosch has the internal. Well, not exactly internal to the alt, but it's still attached to it. Just as with the Ford. The Valeos, actually, we never really have many problems with them.

Cool that you have a stang in Norway :fing34: What else do they put that 1.6 in? Is it something you guys play with in Europe? I love non-traditional build-ups and have almost put a supercharged SHO v6 in a 67 Merc. Cougar...the car got sold out from under me.

the bosch got the regulator attached to it but its not a bad thing, i got adjustable regulator on my alt`s. adjustable regulator cost some penny more then the stock/regular ones.

a little screew on the regulator to adjust it up to 15V makes me happy ;)

agree theres rarely problems with Valeo`s, but the thing is that its regulator is totally internal and cant fit regulator like the bosch.

thats why valeo sucks ;)

dont know if you heard of Ladac, but thats a external regulator that you attach to the alt..it sences the battery temperature and keeps the voltage at a pre-set of 14.4V at anytime. and it goes up and down dependng on outer temperatur and battery temperature ;)

excellent for winter and summer times.

hm...i wouldnt call that car a Stang.....i think the 1.6 is in lots of cars..

if we play with it...?hm... the car is totally stock..no mods on it.

i know theres a "rs turbo" with my kind of chassi..thats aso stock..

67 merc.cougar needs v8 ;)
