Recommended Posts

Ok on the box my subs shipped in there is a sticker with helpful hints. One of them talks about setting my amp with an oscilloscope to match my headunit voltage, and to set my gain. where can I find an oscilloscope and how do i do it. lol :trippy:

First off, what kind of price are you looking for for an o-scope?

Use your ears, you don't need a scope.

Even if you did use a scope you would just go back and turn up the gains because it would not be loud with zero clipping at all frequencies.

Unnecessary to purchase an o-scope for the purposes of gain setting unless you plan on having some other future use for the device.

Phi are you talking about the nano. Or something like that.

I've almost bought that one before but couldn't really see spending a 100 bucks to just set gains.

Keeps stupidity from happening.

They should be set with a scope...so you can see the wave form and not burn stuff up.

But of course nobody ever reads anything..slams them in a box "tweaks" the gain..."sets" the subsonic filter..and wide open they go.

A week later they are emailing MY SPEAKER QUIT WORKING YOU ALL SUCK I HATE YOU THIS IS WARRANTY I AM GONNA SUE.

..yeah..

At over 145db with everything rattling I'd be a little leary to do it by ear.

i bought a tpi scope for around 350 shipped, i rather spend 350 bucks for a scope than the cost and time to re-cone a sub... imo..( got mine from Kiesub Electronics)

Yeah, I wouldn't trust that shit cus it doesn't work like a real Oscope is supposed to. I don't even know the reason for it.

It has to be broken because it is the easiest thing to do. It auto ranges and shows the wave. You just turn up or down the volume and gain.

Make sure you are PROBING the speaker leads on the amp, nothing else...

It must be reading an AC signal, not DC.

Also... it must be on... lol Tada!

Make sure you are playing a steady tone too.
