Amp or HU problem/, anyone ever have this issue?

Recommended Posts

H.U. >>>>>>>>>>>>Eclipse AV8533, installed ~ 2 months ago, new in box before that. I'm the original owner.

Mid bass speakers>>>>Peerless sls (830946) 4 of them.

Mid bass amp>>>>>> Sundown sax 125.2, installed ~ 2 months ago, I'm the original owner.

A couple of days ago I thought I heard my midbass speakers fade out, then come back on in a second or two.

I wasn't sure if I heard it or not, so I dismissed it.

Today I got in my truck and got on the E-way (I'm 2 min. from the E-way) and my midbass speakers faded out again.

I don't think this is a wiring issue, it happens like clockwork, they play for ~6 seconds, fade out for ~2 seconds, then come back on.

This cycle repeats as long as the stereo is on, radio or cd and occurs at any volume level.

I don't have problems with any other amps/speakers in the truck.

The list of equipment in the truck is in my sig.

I'll try to check the rca outputs in the next couple of days to isolate either the HU (stops sending a signal) or the amp.

The fact that cycle is so consistent leads me to believe that it's not something loose, but maybe something is overloading or resetting itself.

There's no weird noises when this happens, it's as though the I'm turning the volume down and up on the midbass only.

Any of you electrical guys have any ideas?

Stop the car when it starts doing it, park and check the amp. See if it's going into protect.

I'll check the amp and the rca out tomorrow on my lunch break.

I'll watch the power light on the sax-125.2, to see if it's powering down.

I have a funny feeling its the head unit, if the amp was going into protect wouldn't I have to cycle the power off/on to reset it?

If it is the head unit and it can be fixed, would you recommend anyplace to have it repaired.

I really hate the HU at this point.

Damn strange bro.

Do you have a different amp you could put in?

Sorta, kinda, mostly, ya I guess I do, but my money is on the eclipse head unit at this point.

Yesterday I only went to work and back, about 10 min. trip and everything was ok.

Today I had running to do after work, no problems for the 1/2 hour ride to my moms.

I took her to her aquatic therapy class, ~5 min trip, all is fine.

I come back out to the truck while I'm waiting and BAM, midbass starts cutting out.

I looked at the 125.2 and the power light stays on.

I checked the hide-away unit and wiring, nothing is shorting/touching anything.

I've got to believe it's the head not the amp, there's a hide-away unit I could open up and look at, but I doubt I'll see anything.

Why does crap always go wrong when when you don't have time or it's below 20* out!!!!!!

I'm really disappointed with this eclipse unit and I've never had any problems with any of there equipment before.

Anyone have any suggestions, beside a 3lb. hammer?

The hammer may not fix it, but it'll never f**k with me again.

It just keeps getting better and better.

Mids were working fine today, but I now have a one hell of a turn off thump. :suicide-santa:

I wonder what could be next, maybe the screen will motor out and fall off or it'll start on fire.

I really, really hate this head unit !!!!!!!!!! :biggun: :biggun: :biggun: :biggun: :biggun: :biggun: :biggun: :biggun: :biggun: :biggun: :biggun:
