ik some of you nightshade guys out there have had to do a recone, so instead of blowing up jacobs email, i figured i would ask you. what did u use for shims when you did your recone? also, what kind of glue do u recommend? i have read that i can just use some 15 minute epoxy, the stuff that self mixes. or should i use ca glue? thanx for the help.

Epoxy or some superglue. Manila envelopes work well for shims.

Just being curious how do you get thick and thin shims from manila folders? Not downing you by any means duran, but I have seen alot of people jack up recones using random stuff for shims they end up with coil rub. Op you can email or call Aq and ask Dj if you can get shims from him, search online, hell you can probably call several companies off here. As for glue I like ca glue, but either work.

so all i do is keep putting shims in until its a tight fit all the way around? and then pull the shims out after the glue dries?

cutting them into strips still isnt going to change the thickness of the material though. Overheard projector paper is what I normally use comes in several different thickness. You have the right idea OP you should search the forum and find the thread dedicated on reconing subs that will help you alot.

You can use white paper until it's snug... probably about 12 sheets of typical printer paper.

There's even some "professional" shims on ebay: shim link although there's nothing really to them

I used cardboard(from a beer box) cut into about 1 1/2 inch by 3 or 4 inch pieces. 4 of them worked good. Also used 5 min epoxy for glue. Make sure you sand the spider landing with about 80 grit to make sure it holds up and on the dustcap do the same thing.
