need tips to stiffen cab wall

Recommended Posts

i got a bigger amp for my 10's and now my back wall of my truck flex's way to much ...it has a knocking sound i can make it stop buy pushing as hard as i can on the consol ...what would be the best way to stiffen the wall...the box is bolted to it but only at the bottom ..i could put some more bolts into the top but im not sure it would end it ...another idea i have is to weld some tubing to the back of the wall inbetween the cab and bed ..well here is the only pic i have to show where the consol meats the wall

my teammate once did this, works wonders if you are willing to chop some stuff

drill a few holes through the back wall and into the front wall of the bed, then put some all-thread metal rods through them, then put bolts on either side of each wall where the rod goes through. works like a charm

Sounds like a decent start but you need to get some type of rubber bushing around the hole to allow for bed flex while driveing. There is a reason that the bed an cab are not attached to each other. My buddy used ladder mitts shoved between the bed an the cab an it works a little. We just got done peel n seal his cab so we are gona see what happens. Think the best way to go is to build a false wall out of 3/4 mdf an filling between the cab wall an mdf with a cotton filler of some sort. Hope this helps you out.

CCF and MDF sandwich. Put the CCF on the wall and bolt some MDF to it. The crapton of deadening recommendation is terrible...

I used a sheet of MDF in my old truck but it seems like you would have to modify you enclosure to do it. I like the all thread idea but the bed and cab will still flex as previously stated. You could bolt a piece of tubing, angle iron, or even a 2x4 to the back side of the cab to stiffen it up. You would not have to worry about the cab/bed flex like with the all thread. And x2 on what M5 said about the crap ton of deadener being a bad idea. Hope you get it figured out. Best of luck.

i just wedged some mdf between my cab and bed on my taco. by wedge i mean pounded that shit in there. the bed and cab still move but the cab doesnt smack against the bed anymore... if thats your problem...

if its your box bouncing off your wall i would still do a sheet of mdf in between the cab and bed then some all thread through the box, through the cab wall, through the wedged mdf, then through the bed wall then tighten all of it together as one big piece. THAT would be solid. In my opinion.
