new setup help

Recommended Posts

ok i ordered two 12" black "Fi"day x series woofers. should i put them in a ported or sealed box? i can locate the recommended volume. if ported would be better what should i tune the box to. also what should i set my crossover frequency at. i will not use bass boost at all in fact my bass on my headunit will be -2 and 0 on my amp. depending on what i tune my box to i will set my subsonic filter 2hz less than that. i just want the most output possible from the woofers without risking damaging them

yes ive never made my own box before, but i have found a website that has a calculator. you enter the dimensions youd like your enclosure to be, tuning frequency, how wide, and tall of a port, and it will tell you how long to make the slot port. would that be ok or should i just build a sealed. will the sealed give me the output i want?

could i get the output i want from a sealed or should i go with ported i know with a sealed i could run more wattage through them and have less risk of me killing them and would be easier to build but ive only had one other sealed box before and im not sure it will sound good well the way i wqant lol

In your first post you refered to the most output possible, not the easiest enclosure to build.

Do the sealed and try it, then build the ported and get the most output.

You could also make a seald box that is large enough to ad an aero port later. I did that and decided I liked ported

well every box ive ever owned has been ported except for one and i know i like ported but they have all been prefab ones i bought the setup ive heard that i liked the most was two 12" kicker cvx's in a ported box on a audiopipe 1600d in the back of a blazer i loved it and since have been trying to get that much bass in my 2000 grand prix gtp i just ordered two of the black fiday xseries 12" woofers and i own a soundstream rub1.1000d amp and an alpine headunit i usually dont have much money to spend so have been trying to get there on a very small budget so far ive spent $440 on the amp headunit and subs all bought brand new which is the most ive ever spent on one setup and im really hoping theese Fi 12's will sound how i hope

so far sub wise ive owned 8 sony xplod 12's (not all at once), 1 audiopipe 15, 1 kicker cvr, 2 fosgate xlc 18's (never installed them), 1 hifonics brutus 12, 1 jl audio w3v3 12, 2 pioneer 12's, 1 dub audio 12 (LOL), 1 lightning audio 12, 1 mtx 15, 2 kicker comp 12's, and 1 alpine type r

so far amp wise 1 pioneer 1200d, 2 sony xplod 1300w, 1 jl audio 500/1, 2 power acoustik 300/1, 1 kicker zx300, 1 audiopipe 800d, 1 hifonics 1000d

So you haven't heard much.

Ported will give you the most output, but it will be a little more complicating to build verse a sealed enclosure. As Bobobass suggested, you could use an aero port for the enclosure and that would make things a bit easier to build.
