Xcons in trunk

Okay so I have a 2002 Chevy Malibu. I just want to get a few ideas on how big of a box you guys think I can fit in it. I want to try to fit some xcon 15's ported and firing into the cabin sealed off from re trunk but I don't think that is going to be possible. Lol I would like to do them ported. I think 2 15's sealed would probably fit. Or should I just fit 2 12's ported with the same install, trunk sealed. What do you guys think? I have only owned a sealed prefab box, under powered, kicker L7 15's. I want to feel the lows alot better and have it sound better. Probably tune the box to 28 for 15's and 30 for 12's. I just don't want to get 12's and not be satisfied? But I'm sure 3000 rms on some 12" xcons would be impressive.

From the Malibu's I've seen, you'd be better off trying to squeeze 2 12's in there than 2 15's. You're not going to be disappointed if set up right, trust me. Compared to what your last system was, 2 12" Xcons ported on 3k rms will make you cream.

I have two 12" Xcons in a trunk, and they sound awesome! Definitely don't regret it, I was actually in the exact same boat as you. Even though I designed a box that could fit, the extra work would have been wayyy too much. I have a video if you'd like to see a glimpse of the damage (cameras don't pick up much).

Yea Ulrisa I've seen your videos on YouTube those do hit hard. What is your box tuned to? And how many cubes is it? Also do you have alot of extra room still for amps and battery, If you have one? Or how about what does your electrical upgrades consist of?? Lol

I beleive the proper amount of space for your enclosure will be a bigger factor than deciding if you want 12's or 15's. Good Luck!!

They are in a 4 cube net enclosure tuned to 32 hz. I do have extra room, but I wouldn't say a lot lol. I do have an extra battery, its a C&D High Rate 110 AH battery I believe, and I have a Yellow top D34 in the front. I have a stock 120 amp alt, and if you have any less I'd recommend keeping the gain down until you have a better one. My electrical is like just enough for this system, so I plan on upgrading it to get it's full potential.

Also, when you put a huge box like this in your trunk, make sure to get everything in place first lol. I got excited with mine and started sealing the trunk and realized it was going to be really hard to add trim pieces and such without taking the box out.

Okay so I only measured the inside d about the max dimensions of a box I think I could fit. And it would be getting through the back door and sliding it in through the back seat into the trunk. The length is 34-35" max.. Height is 18" max. And width/depth is 26". It really is about 28 but I don't think that will fit through the door. How many cubes would a box with those dimensions be before displacement? I would just have to cut a little of the metal that is rounded behind my backseat an make it squared to fit the box.

Probably not, Sealed Yes, ported no.. I would down size to 12's.. It's better to have two woofers in a perfect enclosure than two larger woofers in a too small of a box.

Although you may have enough internal volume for 15's, you need to figure out how you are going to mount the subs and where the port will be. With a 34" x 18" baffle, you are very limited on space. Just keep that in mind.

Agh you guys are right. The 12's are going to be a lot less work and have more airspace. And I'm sure with these 12's people are going to think I have two 15's already. I'm going to just stick to 12's. Maybe 3? Hahaha

3 12s won't fit either, you're front baffle will be to small. I was in the same boat as you, if you're going to pay that much money, you want to get the bigger cone for just that extra maybe $30.. but when it came down to it, 15's wouldn't fit in my trunk so I just rolled with 12's. Fire the subs and port forward and seal it off from the trunk.

Edit** And if you're worried about what people think of your subs, I can assure you that your Xcons will impress anyone who sits in your car.

Believe me, 2 12" Xcon's will sound great. Don't be discouraged by the size, they sound great and have plenty of output.

2 15's probably won't fit ported 3 12's probably won't fit. 2 12's or new car. Sorry.

Alright I'm done comparing.. The 12's it is! Thanks, you guys are great and hellla good help. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be very impressed with them. I wish I could get a demo somewhere. But it's all good I'm ready to get them. =]
