My 15" mag install

Recommended Posts

So I ordered a 15" mag I think a week n a half ago. I just haven't had time to get everything setup and what not. Over the last week, in my spare time, I have been building my 2.5 cu ft sealed box. Here are some of the pics:

Thats it for now. Should be done tomorrow. Glueing the front baffle onto the box and the terminal cup. Then sealing and carpeting and installing tomorrow!

Here is my old subs. Nice subs, just wanted a change.

Thanks. I just glued the front baffle on and the terminal cup. Took everything out of my truck to rearrange. I have to cut a piece of mdf to go along the bottom of my back seat so that the box sits flat. Should be tomorrow probably by 2 or so. I'll post then with more pics and maybe with a vid soon...

There are some updated pics. Couple of the pics show the floor I made for the back seat of my truck. The back seat is not flat and it pisses me off!

Ran into a few problems today. Hopefully I can have the sub in by wednesday or so. I just have to carpet my sub box. Thats it. And figure out where I want my amps, either next to the box or whatnot.

What took me so long was cutting the jack holder in the back seat. Took 3 some hours just to cut the damn thing out. Went through like 6 of those wheel blades for a dremel. Those things scare the crap out of me when they break. Safety goggles saved my eyes a few times for sure. Actually, I think one pice went straight up my head and through my hair. Might have trimmed it up a bit.

Ive broken my fair share of those cut off wheels. Safety glasses are a MUST when using those. Ive had chunk fly in my eye from using one.

When they break you have no clue where they go either.

I hope it wangs like no other

I think he just did it because he wanted it flush mounted

You are correct. And I figured it couldn't hurt to double baffle due to the wait. So its a dual purpose.

A little update.

I got the "floor" down in my back seat. Looks damn good. Carpeted the woofer box. Lol...carpeting didn't come out so good. Oh well. I don't really care abou the carpet as much i guess. I will have it in today.

I don't know about you but I sure would have been nervous with bricks that close to my sub. the horror if one would have got knocked over on the cone.....

but, yes good looking box so far. I need to build a new box and an amp rack in the floor of my trunk. if I only had time any time soon.

Update :).

Installed, yes I said it.

Now, the results. I sacrificed something though and I can't figure it out. Now my radio has noise or static on it, only on the radio it sounds like though. CD's sound fine. Anyways...

This sub drops down lowwwwww. First I played the ZZ Top greatest hits. Holy chit. This sing is accurate. All I have to say. Sounds flat out absolutely amazing. Oh and is it loud. Next, Rush cd. Tom Sawyer. Incredible.

Next up, Mudvayne. Lost and Found. The songs just hit me in the chest like I havent felt before. Very very very nice. I love it.

One key word, not broken yet. I figure a full day of listening outta get it up to par. Its very loud though. Seriously. I am extremely impressed. One will do it for me. I decided to stick with one instead of two. And I am used to two 15's.

:rockwoot:

Neil Peart = very very good drummer. Their music has a lot of range.

Will have vid as soon as I can borrow a dig camcorder.

I think at this point "I told you so" really doesn't cut it. ...but then again, what do I know. ;) When we shove a $1200 15" unit in storage for our MSRP'd $550 unit, that's saying something.

BTW: My dad and I are the epitome of tight bass connoisseurs.

My fav song on it as of now: The Eagles - Hell Freezes Over - Hotel California. The beginning drum beat just sounds phenominal

Gotta love it when you get that kick drum that you can feel in your chest

Wow. Thats all I can say. Wow. This thing drops so low and with tremendous authority. However, I'm thinking I might have hit the limit of either the sub or the amp. Lol. The sub sounded a little different. It was a song on bass mekanik and my lights were dimming real bad. lol. My amp is benched at 2025 watts at 2 ohms, so I figure 1000 watts at 4 ohms. probably not doing exactly 1000 watts with electrical and what not. But still should be doing darn near close. New alt and new bat. Rebuild alternator with heavy duty rectifer. Friend of a friend :). Red top battery.

I don't think it's a problem with giving the sub too much power. I have mine in the same size box but with 1.5x the power...the only time I hear a funny sound is when I clip the amp...believe me, you can really tell when it's clipping too... Heck, the sub doesn't even move anywhere near x-max with full power...it's stupid loud, though. :D

Most definitely. It IS loud as hell. It is moving quite a bit though. I think I might be clipping the amp possibly. I might pick up a nine.1 to give it a little more.
