My first properly done box

Recommended Posts

Way to bring my browser to a crawl!

dude please resize the images smaller. Its taking forEVA to finish loading. :sleepwerd4::suicide-santa: Good shit otherwise.

Done.

Thanks to our awesome admin Aaron!

The box is looking good!! Nice choice of wood. :fing34: wish I had that belt sander.

Thanks, man. The sander is pretty sweet especially working on big pieces. Would take forever by hand or electric hand sander.

Nice. :)

I have a tip like you had for gleuning pieces together.

Use a lot of glue, but before you glue sand the pieces a little bit.(with grit 80-120)

Just so the glue soaks in the wood. ;)

Beautiful kerf :)

I've seen better. I am thinking about using MDF only for the kerf. Plywood is PITA for kerfing...

I don't know much about taking pictures. :D

dsc06482_e3ab1_25804682.jpg

Gluing...

dsc06484_85f7a_25804684.jpg

Glued. Some minor sanding on the right too.

dsc06528_25bcd_25804686.jpg

Baffle.

dsc06533_4b9d3_25804688.jpg

And the flushing panel.

dsc06535_5af8d_25804689.jpg

The bigger circle is not sanded yet. Needs a little bit more work on it.

dsc06541_e24dd_25804690.jpg

I had to put it. Looks nice.

dsc06543_8362c_25804693.jpg

That's it for today. :)

It has been like 10 days since I last worked on the box... :/

Someone took my camera, so I'll post these not so good phone pictures.

dsc01640_132ba_25921939.jpg

The 45 at the end of the port.

dsc01643_00c2b_25921941.jpg

Gluing it. 4 screws in the back. One clamp on top and note the big scrap piece of wood I made for a minute. It has a rectangle cut in it so you can put it in the corners of the box. :)

dsc01647_ea5af_25921943.jpg

Bought some t-nuts. I'll be using the old hex head screws I had.

dsc01650_f69e3_25921944.jpg

End of the port. Routed on both sides. Then went through the belt sander.

dsc01652_d623b_25921946.jpg

Gluing the baffle.

dsc01654_46892_25921949.jpg

6 clamps and 4 screws. That's enough right? :D

Baffle all glued up.

img_1496_d165e_25940016.jpg

img_1499_b34a4_25940019.jpg

Mmmm kerfing. :)

img_1506_acdb0_25940023.jpg

img_1512_a700a_25940026.jpg

The piece between the two bigger ones. Not a straight 45 but smoothed out. It's easy with the big belt sander, so why not. :detail:

img_1513_b5d62_25940028.jpg

And,,, gluing the last big piece of the port.

img_1516_decec_25940032.jpg

img_1517_bc9d9_25940036.jpg

img_1524_d5b92_25940041.jpg

A piece of veneer to hide the not so beautiful back of the kerf.

It's 11PM and still drying, but I might try to put the top and listen to the box tomorrow. :rockwoot:

I am listening to the box right now and I am speechless. It's ... beautiful. That thing is KILLING THE LOWS. Can't wait to put it in the 4Runner and with that cabin gain... :rockwoot:

img_1531_be181_25947076.jpg

Router with 45 bit. Doing the corners for one little piece.

img_1536_b207c_25947077.jpg

The little piece getting glued.

img_1537_b3e81_25947078.jpg

And it's closed. Process > pre-drill, add glue, clamp, screw down.

img_1541_8044f_25947079.jpg

Poor clamp getting bend from too much hand power.

img_1544_fc1e2_25947080.jpg

Old vs New. Anyone wanna guess what's the weight difference? I am amazed how light it is with plywood.

Now I think the old box is awful. Particle board, wrong tuning...

img_1547_f1327_25947081.jpg

That 25$ POS (no that's not a brand, it's stands for piece of shit :D) woofer miraculously is killing the lows. Can't wait to get a SA-12.

img_1548_ad6d3_25947082.jpg

Picture of the last thing I glued. It was routed, then went through the belt sander.

img_1550_d7eac_25947083.jpg

I don't have terminals for the moments, so the wire is in the port.

That's it for today. I have to paint the port, put the carpet on and make the terminals, and it will be done. Any comments welcome.

Тhanks.

I am covering it with carpet, the same as my old box, picture above. The port and the "ring" around the subwoofer are getting painted in white.

ive found its easier to kerf plywood compared to mdf

The enclosure looks great!!

I gave up trying to kerf mdf, not enough patients I guess.

The belt sander and the clamps in the beginning look homemade, probably out last stuff you can buy nowadays.

The box was painted a couple of days ago and it's dry now. I've decided to double up all sides. Then make the terminals, carpet and call it done.

img_1851_546f9_26087851.jpg

Satin white paint.

img_1854_20e8c_26087852.jpg

A closer view of the port. That's the cables reflection, don't worry.

And the artifact you see will be covered in carpet as designed. ;)

img_1857_e5195_26087853.jpg

Big piece of carpet.

img_1862_9cc0e_26087855.jpg

A threaded rod for the terminals, nuts, washers and copper terminals for the cables.

Did some work today. The box now has all sides double except the smaller side panels.

img_1868_9a6b8_26130235.jpg

Bottom already glued. Working on the top piece. Screws and clamps as always.

img_1876_27c35_26130237.jpg

That's nasty. :)

img_1882_21121_26130238.jpg

Side view. Small piece of wood added to the flushed panel to resemble the double baffle when the carpet is on. I'll explain that better when it's finished.

img_1892_0a4a6_26130246.jpg

Doing the box terminals using a threaded rod. I made two holes(which will be sealed with silicone), cut the rod, then some nuts and a washer at each end so it doesn't go into the wood that much when screwed.

Tomorrow carpet? ... :)

Very nice looking box! cant wait to see it in the car.

I am in the process of saving up money for a car...

But I'll put it in the family 4Runner for some pictures and listening of course.

The box is 99% done. :attempt:

img_1958_7e509_26152985.jpg

Doubled up. Damn thing weights so much more now.

img_1970_c00c1_26152988.jpg

All edges run with the round over bit with the router.

img_1973_7ee6b_26152990.jpg

Getting ready to carpet.

img_1977_ae023_26152993.jpg

img_1981_1f690_26152996.jpg

Brand new blade(in the small paper thingy).

img_2001_cdc5c_26152999.jpg

Doing the sides. My room will smell of glue for a week or so. :D

img_2005_ce013_26153002.jpg

Done with that.

img_2015_2be95_26153005.jpg

The terminals.

img_2025_74604_26153007.jpg

And voila. =)

img_2026_bebfd_26153010.jpg

Side view.

img_2027_5ab66_26153012.jpg

Subwoofer in.

img_2029_457d6_26153014.jpg

Needs some work around the port and baffle paint. Some minor sanding to clean the glue, paint and DONE. Also need to put some silicone around the terminals.

That's it guys. Any comments welcome.
