2 Options for box

Recommended Posts

Ok, well My trunk openings are garbage, my trunk is HUGE but, I can't get a box inside the trunk from the rear or from the back seats.

So, my only 2 solutions are this.

1.) I lay down plastic so I don't get anything in the back of my car, And I pre-drill the screw holes and put the box together while it is in the trunk. Only problem i see with this really, is the internal piece for the slotted port.

2.) I build the box split down the center, having a top half and a bottom half, which would be Biscuit jointed or using dowels and thenglued together in the trunk, and then over the joint external strips would be screwed into place to hold the joint together.

Both of these are probably going to be pretty tough, but as of right now, the only other option is to mount the sub on the top of the box and take up my entire trunk. with the port facing either the right or left side of the car.

whats the car and what are you trying to fit in it?

i would build what you can outside the car, then put it in the trunk and assemble, make it double layer where you would assemble and then make the layer overlap each other so you can screw them together.

What sub(s) and amp(s) are you using? what vehicle is this? If it was me I would build the box the biggest I could outside of the car. Doing this you can make sure your box is assembled correctly and the quality will be better. Removing the box won't be such a problem either. If you absolutely need to go bigger you could build some kind of wall box in your trunk with the subs facing the cabin.

Hey thanks for the responses.

Its a 15 Inch IA, LI

I'll be using a Hifonics brutus(its like 1200Watt@2ohm RMS amp for the sub) and a Infinity 475a(for speakers)

It will be going in a 2004 Dodge Stratus R/T.

I think the best option for me would really be to just assemble the box in the back of the car.

I can pre drill ever hole, I can set it up so that the walls go around the outside of the bottom layer so i can screw the screws into the side of the walls into the "floor" of the box.

Then I can put the port wall in using 90 Degree mounts along with some liquid nail.

Then the top would sit into the box just like the bottom such that I can screw the screws around the outside corner.

I wish i could diagram it.

I really would like to put some angles inside to smooth out the flow of air instead of having a large corner.

My only other option is to build the box that will take up my whole trunk, and place the sub on the "top" of the box instead of the side(facing the rear)

I can get it to slide in if its less than 23 inches wide, and 13 inches tall.

So I had come up with like 23x13x32 or something along those lines.

I just prefer to mount the sub on the rear of the box, so that i can put it in after the box is in the car. Instead of having 25 extra lbs on the already heavy box.

Edit: I of course won't be pushing 1200 watts to the sub

i wouldnt build the box in the car unless your going to fire front, just cause you wont get proper ventalation into the cabin, basically choking the sub in the trunk. meaning all the sound will be in the turnk and not as much as there could be will be in the cabin.

I'm confused about this.

What do you mean?

Like its not that my trunk is small its huge, but the openings aren't

But then what kinda fun would that be :-p

I think im going to build the box inside the trunk,

I'm going to use wood dowels to line everything up properly, with some liquid nail(for wood) and pre-drill the screw holes.

The only place that won't have screws or the ability to put screws in, will be the Bottom of the inside port wall. Which will be held with wood dowels as well. and the top screwed in.

I think this will work out pretty well.

I will use 1/4" wood dowels and i will pre-drill all of their holes as well.

I'll document this just for fun :)

Well,

The bottom, sides, back and port all are in the trunk, just have to install bracing and then the front panel and top, and the box will be complete.

Should I carpet it?
