460 watts enough for the 15?

Recommended Posts

I've given serious consideration to selling my D2 12 and purchasing a 15. At the moment, however, I would only be able to throw 460 watts rms at the thing. My 12 in a 2 cube box at 28 hz gets louder than I ever need it to with that many watts but will the 15 respond the similarly? I do plan on upgrading to a 1000 watt amp sometime in the future but it wouldn't be for at least another couple of months. I would probably put the 15 in a 2 -2.5 cubic ft sealed box, but space really isn't an issue. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Mike

The 15's are just as efficient (actually more efficient) than the 12's are. So with the same input power the 15's are going to be louder than the 12's. But if you like your 12 that much I would just stick with what you already have and upgrade your amplifier later. :)

Thank you very much for the reply! There are a couple reasons for my wanting to purchase a 15...

-Similar output in a sealed box as compared to the 12 ported

-Will get lower than the 12, not a huge concern but it's nice to have none the less

-Local car shop is going to be having some spl competitions, so if the 15 is anything like the 12 I would get a little more output and still be able to maintain a very good daily driver.

Thanks again!

Mike
