MMATS Dreadnauts? Opinions?

Recommended Posts

So, a friend of mine who I havent seen in some time recently told me that he is in an urgent need of cash so he is selling all his car stuff.

I didnt see anything interesting. Then he told me about his subs.

He has 2 12inch MMATS Dreadnauts in a custom made, ported box. Each sub retails for $500 (woofersetc.com) + the enclosure which he says cost him an extra $350.

He told me (a week ago) he would give them to me for $600, I said no. Then recently, we talked about again. He ended up lowering the price down to $300. Now, when we reached that price I said to myself "let me ask in the forums to see if its a good idea".

To me, Im guessing it would be an upgrade no matter what since I only have one 12 anyways, but if Im going to spend $300, I want to make sure this is going to be a GOOD UPGRADE. Something that is much louder than what I have now.

When I compared the price he gave me with the price they sell for on the internet, I was surprised to see he would go this low. $500 per sub + $350 for enclosure, its like $1350. Even if he is been sarcastic and it all came out $1000 to him, he is still way below a decent selling price isnt him?. I know he is in need of money, but when we reached $300, I paused for a second since I didnt want to get too excited before asking here.

I told him I will be going to his house tomorrow afternoon to check them out (to check cosmetics), use my DMM to make sure both coils of each sub reads 2ohms (so they are not blown) and to hear them to see if they impress me.

Now, I want to ask people here. What are your thoughts on MMATS? And about the DREADNAUTS? and Am I getting a good deal here?

Well in terms of what Im getting for my money, when it comes to features, quatity and price ratio, its a good deal.

Now, the decisive moment will come today or tomorrow when I check the cosmetics, the coils and most important, when I hear them.

Just want to know a bit more about this MMATS brand, so far I see positive reviews everywhere. Some people even claim hitting 146dbs with lower featured subs (the Pro-Mats series) from MMATS. So Im REALLY interested on testing them.

If I can double the bass (or more) than what I have right now, I think I will be going for them.

I dont think I will be able to find 1150rms subwoofers (two of them) for $300 WITH enclosure. But we will see

Any other comment about MMATS, their dreadnauts series or the deal Im getting here will be welcomed.

MMATS makes a quality product! If they look, check and sound good then it's a definite steal!

Go for it!

$300 for subs and box, that's a damn good deal.

x2 :dancing:

As long as they play and you can fit 2-15's then I say go for it, I used to live in Florida and heard lots of MMats setups. I like there subs and Im even thinking about getting one of there amps in the future.

For the money, might be worth it. If not, you can probably resell for the same price.

I would definitely get them for $300. Mmats are built in Florida and they make some great products. I've been using there amps for almost 5 years now and still works flawlessly. I've heard the Dreadnauts once and they was slamming. But also it depends on your setup, but those speakers do have potential to do great numbers.

Hey guys

So I went to check the subwoofers yesterday

Didnt have time to test them out but I did get to check 1 sub and its 2 coils.

Im not sure if they were connected in paraller or series, but the 2 coils that I measured got a reading of 2.4 each on the DMM

I measured them with the speaker cables still connected to the terminals on the subs (I think they were connected in series).

Does this sound good?

I mean, if they were wired in series, and I measured a coil with all speaker cables connected, Im suppose to get 2ohms and thats what the DMM looks like it was getting.

Does 2.4ohm sound right?
