Wiring issue

Recommended Posts

Hey, I'm wiring a 2ohm DVC Fi Q to a Sundown Audio SAX-1200D. Being a monoblock amp I don't know how to wire this properly. I've checked quiet a few of the websites with wiring diagrams but none of them are showing how to hook up to an amp with double connections ++ -- All they show are mono or multiple channel configurations. Currently the sub is wired following this diagram http://a248.e.akamai.net/pix.crutchfield.com/ca/learningcenter/car/subwoofer_wiring/1DVC_2-ohm_mono.jpg

Looking directly at the side of the amp with speaker connections, brackets = [wire] [+] + [-] -

I think with the way I have it wired that it's running @ 4ohm. The goal is 1ohm.

Also, I need to give a big thank you to everyone who helped me pick out equipment and wire. I'll post some pics once everything is correctly hooked up, cleaned up, and carpeted.

so you are trying to wire you dual 2 Q to 1ohm?

if so: (+) to (+) on sub and that goes to (+) on amp

same for negitive line: (-) to (-) on sub and then goes to (-) on amp

Wire it like this if you want 1ohm at the amp :)

The extra set of positive and negative terminals on the amp are for convenience, there internally connected so it doesn't matter which set you use.

The dual connections are there to make wiring multiple subs easier.

Just use 2 of the connections and wire like your pic.

Ah ok, I was thrown off by the two sets of terminals. So just connect + to + then send it to amp, same for negative. Got it. I wont be able to do all this until after work tomorrow, is there any possible damage from how i have it wired now or is it just getting less power?

*edit* Thanks for the diagram stefanhinote

Nothings going to get damaged, running the amp at 4ohms will produce less power then running it at 1ohm, that's all.

Now your amp settings could cause damage to the driver if there not set correctly. ie: gain, ssf, bassboost.

Gain is set pretty high, 70%. Bassboost is at 0. Tried to guess where 28hz was for LPF. Subsonic filter I can't recall. Want to say 1/3 of the way up, 10hz - 300hz is what i think the dial has control over. Is SSF too high? EQ on the deck is flat at the moment but the sub level is set to 7/15 (Alpine cda117)

lpf should be set to ~80hz. ssf should be set a couple hertz below enclosure tuning frequency, if your enclosure is sealed then you can turn your ssf all the way counterclockwise.
