New SSD vs Old SSD

Recommended Posts

I haven't seen really any direct comparisons between the two so I wanted to see if anyone has any personal experience with the old and new SSD's. I own an older stock SSD and loved how it sounded, but I just sold it. I was wondering how the new one sounds compared to the old? I'm trying to decide if I want to try out one of the new SSD's or just totally downgrade to a SA-8. Any info will be really appreciated.

The difference(if any) won't audible, they changed the motor design to match the BTL.

It should be audible because the coil is now copper (standard) and isn't the new motor stronger? Also, I doubt they would build a new sub if it wasn't better, but I just want to know if it sounds better or if it is just built better.

The copper coil does change things a bit yes, BL increases and Mms increases, comparing the new motor with the standard coil and the old motor with the copper coil option, things don;t change much.

I wouldn't consider an SA-8 a "complete downgrade" from an SSD... Those little farts can put a hurt on a man. Also goal dependent.. The guys burped 150+ off a single SA-8. youtube it. As far as the old vs. new, duran is right. Pretty much just a motor change to a midget BTL motor. The copper coils did add a little more power handling.. but a couple hundred watts isn't going to be audible.

The copper coils actually don't have the power handling an aluminum coil has, but up until about 2K it doesn't matter, then aluminum takes over.

It is going to be a downgrade, because of much less cone area and half of the power (SA-8 rated for 400rms). Comparing a 15" to an 8" is few and far between. I have a pair of SA-12's so I know how loud the SA series can get, but 150DB's for an SA-8 in a burp situation is possible, but definitely not in a daily driver..I believe I saw some of those 150DB vids posted by Jacob on ****.org or CA.com. With the copper coils, FS lowers due to more mass which in turn allows the SSD to be more musical and play at lower frequencies. In all honesty though, I was looking for actual experience rather than opinion as I know what they "should" do on paper, but I wanted feedback from an actual real life experience.
