What is the difference between a SPL tuned enclosure and a low tuned enclosure? im not planning on doing and competitions at this point. i just want it to slam and slam hard. I drive and 06 Ford Taurus at the moment. (Hoping to get a Blazer soon) So all i have is the trunk room to work with. i have a kicker L5 15" in there right now. I will measure the trunk tomorrow and post that on here. Also, what is the difference between the Fb (Hz) and the F3 (Hz) the numbers are relatively close so i dont know if i matters or not.

Please help me!! Thank You

SPL box is tuned much higher.. much higher to achieve higher SPL ratings, the low tuned box.. is well tuned low..

The low tuned is designed for the daily playing of music.

Fb is tuning frequency, F3 is the point where SPL is decreased by 3 decibels from a point of reference.

F3 is the 3dB down point from reference, not Fb. In the case of a mistuned box where there is a peak in the response, the peak around Fb is referred to as +dB from reference. Reference is the flat response of the driver with no port effects or roll-off.

If you want it to sound even remotely decent, don't tune higher than 35. Even that is too high IMO.

So i think ill go with a box that is 6.0 cubic feet and tuned around 35-40Hz?

If you want the sub to be half way musical i'd tune lower... as Helotaxi stated even 35 is fairly high.

If you're going to do a burp on it then tune higher, but for a daily system keep it under 35hz

Depends on your musical preferences :)

Not really. Unless your music of preference only has bass content between 35 and 45 hz, tuning lower is going to sound better. Tuning that high only serves to greatly exaggerate the freqs right around tuning. It hinders transient response and doesn't help group delay either. The result is loud but shitty sounding bass.
