what is high QTS?

Recommended Posts

I'm about to get 2 Q 12's with cooling and spider but what is high QTS? i know its for a sealed box only but would i be okay running them in a sealed box without high QTS?

It won't burst into flames and explode if you run the "normal" Qts driver in a sealed enclosure, but the "normal" Qts drivers really don't have the parameters to excel in sealed enclosure performance.....the parameters are really more geared a little more towards ported enclosures.

I don't know exactly how high the High Qts option actually raises the Qts, but if your intention is to run them in sealed enclosure, I'd probably recommend it since they specifically offer it as an option for that purpose and with it's "stock" parameters, it's not as ideally suited for sealed enclosures.

If you were going to simply use them in a sealed enclosure for a period of time but plan to use them more permanently in a ported enclosure, then you would be okay using the normal driver in a sealed enclosure.

well thank you! haha its almost as if you read my mind. I plan on putting these subs in a sealed enclosure for a little while so i have some bass while I build my ported enclosure.

High Qts simply turns the woofer into a Mid Q woofer instead of a lower Q woofer.

It will not have the same detail and warmth with the standard motor in a sealed application vs the higher Qts, but it will work fine. It has to deal with gapping tolerances loosening things up a great deal to scrub off motor strength that is not needed.

But I can't hurt it by running them sealed while I design a ported box that will work in my trunk right?

It won't

Won't hurt a thing..just is not going to sound optimal.

High JACK!

I was wondering about the highv QTS ... If I ordered a FI woofer 10" or 12" with this option and played around with it for a while on a sealed enclosure and say wanted to make that same setup louder.. If I went ported with the same sub would it cause some adverse affects because of the high QTS option?? Just wanted some info...

If you consider being rather unsuited to a ported box "adverse" then yes, it would.

It lowers motor force considerably, which beings up QTS making it perform the best in a sealed enclosure. It will not hurt anything, but won't perform as well in a vented alignment compared to a sealed alignment.

Thank you for the technical Duran. :-) .. I keep thinking sealed because I currently have a pioneer setup which outputs decently for what it is. So I figure just get a better woofer.

Nothing wrong with running the High Qts version in a ported alignment...it just turns the sub into a Mid Qts woofer instead of a Low Qts woofer (which btw sounds horrible in sealed)

Well ive got my 2 Q's in a temporary sealed box and I think they sound pretty d**n sweet! so If you say they sound horrible in sealed, I cant wait to hear them ported :woot:
