Okay.

The sub system is powered off of 1 JL 500/1.

I have already asked you guys about a Dcon setup.. I figure these are my options:

1. I can install my 04S15L7 which is a 2 ohm DVC which I would wire to 4 ohm. This would require that I get an enclosure for it, which would run me in the $200 range.

2. Next is a 12" Dcon in a ported enclosure to spec which would run me about $300-$350.

3. Lastly, I was thinking dual 12" Dcons in a sealed/ported enclosure which would run me about $405-$500.

Add another $400 on top of that because their is a big chance I will be get a DC Power alternator during this process.

What do you guys think?

IMO the L7 is a good all around driver. They can get very loud in a properly designed and constructed enclosure, but are also capable of maintaining adequate sound quality. You already have it, and going that route is the cheapest option. Might as well stick with it.

The Dcon is a great budget oriented driver, but I really don't think it can do anything that the L7 can't. You won't be missing out on anything by going with the L7 over the Dcon.

Unless you just feel like trying something new......in which case, the Dcon is a good choice for a ported enclosure.

Are you planning on upgrading your amp in the future (not saying its needed), but I don't see the need for the h/o alt if your only running 500watts...

Now if you intent on going louder down the road then that's a whole different story :)

Teehe.... You can't not plan to go louder if you really enjoy your car audio... Right?

Well, I am also running an amp for interiors but yea, there is a chance that I will be going louder later... the alternator is in the back of my mind...... But I'm glad you said that...

I will be doing the BIG 3 before I go into the HO alternator.

So if I do the L7 which seems like most people are telling me to do... Should I go sealed or ported? I already know that ported allows better output or at least increases output somewhat...

Taken from the Kicker support manuals, the SQ setup for this driver is sealed in about 6 cubes and a decent(street bass) setup is a ported enclosure at 4.5 cubes...

Apparently the Kicker output it louder at the 40-50 frequency range ....

In the sealed seems to be louder at 50-80 frequency range....

show me where it says 6cuft sealed for 1 15" L7... That sounds extremely too big.

I had the 06 and 08 model of the S15L7.

Yes Shizzon, Kicker tells you from 2 to 6 cu ft sealed !!!:ohnoes9::suicide-santa:

2 is really too small, I tried one box around 2 - 3 ft3 and I never liked it.

One of my friend had it in a huge sealed box (maybe 5ft3) on 1200 watts rms, and it was really loud and digging the lows. It was a little "muddy" in the low notes, but still loud.

We never had a well designed enough ported box to compare.

oddly this box on woofersetc is exact spec for the street bass that Kicker suggests...

that's ridiculous. Those subs require too much volume for what's out there.

Now, if you already have it, then great but, hehe, an 18 can fill the same box as this sub can.

Yea so I have it sitting in my closet and I know it works... I just need the opinions and seems like getting a box for the L7 might be a good idea....

Just build your own, it'll run you about $40.

I wish. No materials or tools renders that impossible. :puzzled:

I know everyone keeps telling me to go to Argent but it would cost me the same if not MORE to go that route, not that I'd totally mind if it were like $50 dollars but I'm afraid to even find out what shipping would cost on a box like this....

with your enclosure as small as it;d have to be, give it a try. He gets a better deal on shipping because he ships so much stuff, PM him and ask how much it'll be.

I hit up a thread on the argent section... hopefully I'll get a response there... :)
