What amp for my 18" Fi SSD?...

Recommended Posts

Alright so I just put an 18" Fi SSD in my 97 honda civic hatchback. I think its like 7.3 cubes and tuned to 33hz. I'm not sure what all info you need but just trying to be helpful ahead of time. Right now I just have a crappy 1000w sony amp from my temp. audio system to hold me over until I had money for the real deal. I'm starting to save up now and wanted to get all of your advice because you all have tons of experience with all sorts of amps and you probably know what my sub can handle. The guy I picked it up from said if i get a good clean amp I can run 1500rms to it.. On the Fi site it says 800rms so I'm assuming he got something upgraded. I know its the dual 2ohm coils?.. It can be wired down to a 1ohm amp I know. I was looking at sundown saz-1500d or maybe hifonics Brz 1700d.. thats if it really can handle 1500rms. All help is much appreciated. I'm not picky about brands, let me know what you think is best. I wanna get the right amp the first time and not have to keep upgrading.. upgrading sucks. Thanks Jordan :thanx:

Budget = I'm poor.. Like literally the cheapest good amp I can get. I want to get a good one so I won't have to worry about it but I have $0 because I pay $315 a month for college right now and make only $600 a month on estimate.. I still have gas and insurance outta that 600.. But believe me I save every penny I can for my car audio.. I'm addicted. Ill skip meals for this stuff. I had to sell my 10w7 and 500/1 for college :(

Edit: I will not sell this system.. after I sold it, it hurt so bad I'll make sure I never have to sell my system for school again. I'll get more hours if I have to if thats what it takes to get a good amp. So give me a good one but don't do the most expensive out there. I'm planning on getting extra hours the next 2 months to get amp money and for a new alt... if needed,

Are the audiopipe amps like the one you listed 15001d is it 1500wrms or is that 1500w peak power? I don't know much about audiopipe as a company/brand. Yes that looks awesome and the price is fantastic but is it a good quality amp and does it put out good clean power?

What kinda draw am I going to have if im pushing 1500wrms. Ive never pushed over 750wrms.. Will an extra battery like kinetik be good enough or do I need a new alt?

Not many people recommend the brand, but I bought a Lanzar MAXP1200 D-Class I think is what it's called.. It's a 1 ohm stable monoblock amp with a max output of 1800 watts at 1 ohm. (Well that's what it's rated at). Personally, I loved it for the setup I had (4 4ohm SVC 12" drivers wired in paralell to 1 ohm in a sealed enclosure). It put out more than my Memphis 16-st100d for sure. The best part, it was $87 plus free shipping from ebay. I've yet to have a problem from it.

** I just found this amp on amazon for $89 + free shipping. Check it out

This is for a single SSD right? It does not need 1500watts, and it is not really designed for that. I personally would lean towards a higher quality amplifier that is with in budget, that puts out power closer to the ratted specs (not near double, and yes music dynamic and the SSD would rarely see the full 1500ish watts). But that is just me.

So you're saying a quality amp that puts about 1000-1200rms instead. What is a quality amp then that is in that price range that is closer to 1000wrms then?

Hifonics if you are on a budget

I am just voicing my question and preference. As this is a daily install, there really is no need for so much headroom, or pushing the sub woofer so far past it's rated power.

Sundown saz 1000 or sax 1200 : you can find great deals on used ones.

But there are a lot of amps in the market : the 1000 watts Audiopipe amps are cheap. Clarion has some cheap amps too. Take a look at the ssa store, and of course ebay is your friend for amazing deals !

How much could a get a Sundown amp for? I'll have to see if it would be in my price range. Also I'm kinda running this as temp. because I'm.... Addicted to bass and nothing is enough. I will be upgrading to the 18" btl ( not in the near future but after I finish my college payments this year's schooling ) At the moment I am working for Chacha on the side as my "audio money" and can make $100-$300 a month depending on how much time I can get online to work ontop of my other job and classes.

Only stating that because I'm meaning I want something good that won't cut in and out when I'm playing and wont shut off but I'm saying I will be upgrading so It doesn't have to be top of the line since I will be getting rid of ( or adding to it ) within a year for the new sub. So wondering if its smarter to just get a cheaper ( audiopipe/ hifonics) for now and get the beast sundown amps when I get the btl in a year.

Honestly I think the Sundown SAX-1200D looks like a great buy... If I wasn't such a retard recently, I could've saved for like one more pay check and pick that up instead of the used JL 500/1 off ebay the other day.... Kinda regret it but ehh you live and learn....

I've yet to test out a Sundown but everyone on here swears by it and I am believing the hype right now.... So yes maybe in like 3-4 months time I might be going Sundown and just sell the JL for beans and call it a day..

Oh and btw, that amp is $300 beans and can do some serious damage at 1 ohm loads from the looks of it... I only have a 300watt amp going to my 12" temporary Pioneer setup going right now and it is kinda loud ... Plus the girlfriend complains that it is too loud anyway so I rarely get to bump beat like I used to when I was single... lulz

The BTL part changes things a little bit. If that is the plan for the future, then I can understand worring about big power cheap, but still the suggested SAX-1200D will be plenty of power for the BTL. If you don't mind me asking, what is Chacha?

Rofl.. Chacha is a texting service. You text Chacha or (242-242) a question and "ChaCha" or other workers like me basically receive it online and answer it and send you the reply back in a text for free... but i get paid to do it. Here's a link. It's actually pretty famous and millions use it every week :D I think there is like 30,000 expeditors/generalists/specialists or in other words people who answer your questions. It's a job you can basically do anywhere as long as you have your computer and wifi your good to go and it isn't a lot but hey it helps out on the side to cover gas or things while im in college. ( i use it for audio stuff now and use my part-time job for college and gas.

ChaCha: www.chacha.com

you should try it btw.. Its free :D just text the number 242-242 and type any question.. serious or fun. We can find real answers or just have random convo's with you if you say something stupid :P

BTW.. I thought btl 18" = 2000wrms?.. I'm sure if i had that i would want more then just a 1200rms amp wouldn't I.. thats the point of having the sexy btl's.

ahh I see... Anyway, I think if you really wanted you could strap another SAZ-1200D and bump it as one, I know Sundown has that capability just not sure if the 1200D offers it... If not for 100 beans more you can go for the SAZ-1500D v.2 which is about 300watts more at 1 ohm and call it a day.... Regardless of power handling on the SSD I wouldn't want to ride around with my daily pumping it at full tilt all the time unless you're not a real bass head....

I'm in Blue Springs near Independence.

There are just so many choices when picking an amp. I'm thinking I want to spend under 250 for this amp and then get a great one like a larger sundown after I upgrade to the BTL. I might even try to spend under $200 for this amp since its a temp. one. Are any of you guys running SSD's? What kinda Watts Rms do most people run these on? I want to get just whatever is cheap for now but still enough rms.

You could always get a large Sundown amplifier and get a dual 1ohm SSD, and wire the amp to 2 ohm mono. ;)
