Sundown 1200 electrical

Recommended Posts

I am looking to install a Sundown SAX1200D in my truck after I get the money up. My question is to run it at 1 ohm what all will I need to upgrade on my electrical besides the Big 3? If I need a larger or more batteries what size should I run and what should I run for the alternator?

Would help to know your current alt amperage, but do the Big 3 and get a nice big battery up front or beside the amp and you should be good to go.

the stock alternator is around 100 amps but I am looking to swap it out to a fullsize truck AD244 that have been tested to put out over 200amps at idle on the s10s and I may rebuild it with larger guts.

the big 3 that alt which is 200amps at idle and some battery in the back say kinetik hc2400 that way you have head room to upgrade and buy a voltage meter to keep an eye on all your stuff!

and report back if it isn't enough you will need another battery.

yeah i am trying to sell a few things that I dont need so that I can afford to do all my electrical upgrades so it may be a couple months but my plans are the big 3, the larger alternator, and probably a kinetic 3400 battery or 2 in my bed and I am thinking about a kinetic 2400 or 1600 under my hood. What is the XS Power voltage controller for?

another question is why is it that I see some people with like a run or wire to every one of there batteries?

in order to get power from the alt. you need to wire them all up.. whether your running both a pos and neg line or just a positive line. I doubt a kinetik 2400 could fit in your stock battery location. If i were you i would just do the big three and monitor your voltage, then upgrade electricals IF needed.

my voltage dropped last night from about 14 volts down to around 11.5 volts on my new sub wired at 1ohm and my amp only half of the way up

Well you have to stay above 12.8 volts to get rated power so some batteries and that 200 amp should do the trick! And get a voltmeter.....

:+1: get a digital volt meter to see some numbers, and do the big 3 in 0 gauge wire, then see what needs to be done. go in steps to save some money.
