Wire distance when strapping

Recommended Posts

Hello i have a small question when strapping 2 1500d's is 26 inchs to far about will it hurt performance i am having alot of trouble fitting everything in my hatch was hoping to stack the amps but just dont have the room so i was wondering if i could put 1 on each side of the box and still keep them strapped or if i should just divide the box into 2 chambers and run the amps unstrapped would like to get some you guys opinions

I would think it would be fine, make sure your grounds are short as possible, you could do two runs of speaker wire to be on the safe side...

i would NOT make them that long maybe 14 at most, mine are about 3inch..

could you maybe fit them on top of the box? that way you can make the box wider and less tall to fit the amps? or how about stacking the amps on ONE side of the box? that idea could work if you do something as shown in this pic!

please note on the pic that the 2-sae1000 are stacked with a solid piece of steal (3/8 round stock i believe) and that piece of round stock has 2 tapped holes, 1 on each side that way they screws will screw in tight and maybe use some lock tight also

other then that if you want to run 26inch maybe step up to 4awg wire and use a 4-8gauge reducer? although that might be a bit over kill but better to be safe then sorry maybe?

Okay its to dark for pictures tonight but i have a 1998 eclipse with 4 10's in 5cube box 2 deka batteries 1500d and 100.4 all in the hatch and its TIGHT squeeze i am ordering 4 sa-10's so wanted to get another 1500d cause i dont believe 1 will do them justice

the box has to remain same size currently they are all 4 firing up would it hurt my sound very much if i put 2 subs on each side of the box with port straight up then i could mount amps on top side by side

umm ya a little tight for space could you please take a pic of EVERYTHING those zoomed in pics are a little tuff to make out where in the car they are. maybe stand on the back bumper and get a good GOOD (not blurry) top down view for use to see. also how much room down you have from the glass to sub/box?

when i asked Jacob this question when I was strapping my sax1000d amps he told me to keep the strapping wire as short as possible to elimate issues and what not... I wish i had the e-mail saved b/c i know he went into a little further explanation of it. so with that i just have always keep my strapping wire as short as possible and plus 12inch seems excessive to me.

got a reply from jacob on this already its fine to run them that far apart just need to run at least dual 8awg wire

You want them as close as possible as a large amount of current passes between them -- if you space them apart 26 inches do not use anything smaller than dual 8 awg runs between the amps.
