Um.... I don't think there's a comparison IMO. The XCON will get plenty loud and sound fantatic doing it, that's what it was designed for. The HDC3, well, it can get loud. From most accounts I hear about it, it doesn't sound that great when tuned to the manufacturers specs.

Since I have no personal experience, I do deserve to be flamed for such an outright comment against the HDC. However, it's near impossible to disregard multiple reports on the "hollow" and "cold" sound that seems to be common with them while the XCON's continue to get outstanding reviews.

The XCON is a high power sound quality driver. Excellent design and built subwoofer. It is notorious for it's output while remaining very accurate on music.

Never heard an HDC3 but had an SDC2.5 and was not all impressed at the SQ. It got loud though.

The Xcon and HDC3 are not really comparable drivers as they are meant for different purposes.

Red part is just because the people don't build the correct box for it. ;)

Xcon buyers are most of the time more aware how to build the correct box or/and the manufacturer's specs are closer to a good enclosure. ;)

well that and the fact that people buying the HDC3 want loud and spl not sq so like what denim said before these subs are not geared for the same thing.

I would say it has more to do with the actual recommended box and tuning from the manufacture more than user error, those Audioque subs are made to have a higher Fs and stiffer suspension. Jacob did a little write up on them as well. I have heard to many times that those subs dont sound right or appealing to most so I doubt its user error. It is more user preference if those subs will sound how you want them too. I have heard a pair and didnt like them and they were in the correct enclosure but to each its own.

OP if your only concern is loud then i would go Audioque but a budge and goals will help us answer your question better as to which sub is for you. Are you interested in other brands as well or just stuck on these subs?

2.5x stiffer than a nightshade v.2 suspension

Just look at the manufacturer recommended enclosure. That should tell you everything you need to know. One wants to be tuned low and the other wants to be in a fart box.

HDC's sound like poo. They will crack your skull in the 40-50 Hz range though, as that is what they are designed to do, not sound good though.

XCON's however will rape your ears below 40 Hz. which woofer you get depends on what you want it to do, there is no woofer that can do it all.

Well said, even though there are some people that believe a few drivers that have massive price tags can do it all. ;)
