Thinking of Upgrading.

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, i've been thinking about upgrading to a different sub, but i cant decide what i want. Right now i have a SSD 12, which i am very happy with sq wise, and it does get decently loud, but not as loud as i would like. Im looking to stay with the 1 12 set up, or possibly 1 15, so what would you guys say would be a good choice to get as loud as possible. I've been thinking maybe a BL or something similar. I would like to keep the price around 400 or under. Thanks.

Why not a 15 SSD?

Ever thought of going with another SSD? More cone area and motor will give you more SPL while remaining musical!

i would really like to keep the one 12 setup..I like seeing peoples reactions when they see its only 1 12 lol..i also though about a btl, but to feed it the full 2k wouldn't i need to get a H/O alt, and possibly a second batt? And i didnt really think about a SSD 15, do you think that it would be noticeable enough over a SSD 12 to be worth it?

You want to stay with a 12 but don't want to run more power but want it louder

More cone area or more power

If you're looking for more output in a single 12" set up, it will be install dependent along with proper electrical.

Upgrade to a 12 BL or even a BTL!

Sorry i wasnt very specific. I am willing to run more power, but having to go all out on a H/O alt and batteries is kind of out of my price range. I could possibly be able to afford one or the other eventually though.

Get a btl under power it then take full advantage of it when you get a bigger amp and alt

alright..now comparing a fully loaded BL to a fully loaded BTL..is the BTL really worth the $100+ difference?

If you run 2k watts then yes. If your running 1000watts then use a bl

alright..i guess i'll just have to think it over for awhile..the BTL is more appealing to me, but that would also mean more cash spent on electrical, where as a BL on 1000 watts could be ran on a basically stock electrical with the big 3 right?

Yes!

I would run 2 10" SSDs, should give you double the power, and still be relatively stealthy.

alright..well i could get an amp the did about 1000-1200 at 2ohm and run the bl at 2 ohm for awhile while i upgraded the electrical and then bought the BTL to run at 1 ohm..sound like an okay plan?

Well i've had to upgrade everything but my alternator with my BL but ive got around 1500 watts or so. if you give it around 1000 watts though you wont have to do much no, but it may not be as big as an upgrade as you would like. If money is really an issue stick with the BL and give it like 1000, if you think you can afford the electrical upgrades over time then dont bother with the BL and go with the btl.

No need to buy another amp! No such thing as underpowering a sub! You could run your exisiting amp until your ready to upgrade to a bigger amp when you get your electrical up to par.

If i was you I'd buy the btl now and under power it til my electrical was up to par to run 2k. Car audio is all about weighing your options and compromise.

when you say everything, what exactly do you mean? Starting battery, battery in the back and big 3?

well im going to have to buy another amp anyway, because my current one isn't 1 ohm stable.

There is to many things to chose from..why cant i just have them all! :P

12" btl dual 2ohm wired to 1ohm.

when you can afford it get an amp that makes 2000watts at 1ohm, gain down til you can afford the electrical to back it up, then properly set your gain and now its louder :)
