Never heard a SI Mag D2...help me imagine it

Recommended Posts

Well...I've never heard the SI Mag D2...but from what I read it sounds amazing. Help me imagine it. Compare the sub to an IDMAX or SoudSplinter rl-p or Alpine Type R or 12W7. Thanks in advance...I look forward to the replies as I am a bit excited by what you may say about it.

Type-R and SI magnum D2 dont belong in the same sentence together.

Words can't describe it. Incredible. This 15 is so clean yet gets crazy loud. It feels like my car is moving (like a wave is rolling through it when certain bass lines hit) or jelly like when the low bass hits on certain songs. Toss in some rock with tight kick drum and it plays it great. Put in rap and the sub wangs. Haven't played classical yet but with some of the rock I've played I'm sure it will sound great with classical music.

I can't compare it with any of the subs listed because I haven't owned them. I've heard a w6 in a shop but people say you have to hear it in a car. In the shop I thought my 2 ed 10k's got louder and sounded better than the single 13" (I believe) w6. It was also in a custom jl box. Anyway this 15" magnum puts my 10's to shame so that gives you an idea.

I don't know how to describe it myself...it's unlike any other subs I've heard before...it's *that* accurate...it's nuts!

I was going to get 2 LI 12's. I knew that I was certain about it. Then I head the D2 demo 12. I'm picking my 12" d2's this coming weekend.

I guess you could say it sounds like a W7 without the wooshing and without the tubbyness :) But really, it doesn't sound like any of the drivers mentioned that I've heard. There really isn't any way to be dissapointed. It has big low end and the extension to the crosover frequency isn't sacrificed at all. It will keep up with anything you can throw at it. The old Magnum was an accurate speaker, but this one takes it another step or two further.

Subs I had when I got my first Magnum:

XXX, Brahma, Stryke, eD Os(flatcone), W7, Tempests, Shiva.

Subs I sold after I got my Magnum:

XXX, Brahma, Stryke, eD Os(flatcone), W7, Tempests, Shiva.

:D

So your getting one of the old versions?  Still a very awesome speaker...

Nope it's a D2. The seller sent me pictures to confirm it

But it's still an older version. They are all D2 BTW.

Yep, it's an older driver (I know it without even looking at it). The new Mag's have our SI logo on the dust cap and, well, look like the new Mag's. :)

ahh I see. Can you link me a picture please?

How noticeably different is the new D2 compared to the old D2? Is it worth the price difference to get the new D2(I'm getting an old one for $170)? Thanks for all the help.

The old drivers were amazing in their own right. The new ones are much improved in every facet. Of course, they are also more expensive.

At that price, I would pick up the older driver. If you don't like it, you can always resell it. You could also have a recone done with the new parts which will also improve the driver in respect to the performance now.

Worst case scenario, you get an awesome driver at a cheap price which you can later resell and upgrade to the newest offering.

IMO, the old driver cannot stand up to the new ones. I didn't think they could be improved upon, but Nick's done it.

How much would a recone cost?

I know the MSRP is $550 if I recall...how much are you actually selling it for?
