Don't open the back tailgate\hatch?

Recommended Posts

So I was told not to open the back hatch\tailgate in my Tahoe while my subs are playing (in a ported enclosure)..Something about it bottoming them out? Is this true, and if so why do I see videos of people doing it to put paper or other items in front of their port?

Nothing bad is going to happen. The important thing in that particular scenario is the box. The environment has little close to none effect to the mechanical properties of your subwoofer.

Yeah that doesn't seem to make any sense to me at all. It should be absolutely fine to open your rear hatch while subs are playing.

It's not true. If your subs are bottoming out when the hatch is opened, the gain is up too high. They probably just think opening the hatch is causing them to bottom out because they can't hear it happening while they're sitting inside or something.
