Get a voltmeter and watch it. That is the only way to know for sure. Need way more info to tell you anything else.

Stinger Volt Meter FTW! Put the positve wire for the volt meter in with the 0 gauge power wire in the amp's terminal, that way you know what voltage your amp is actually seeing. Don't forget to dial it in with a DMM.

What voltage is unsafe?

as long as your car is running with no load, 14.4v is the optimal voltage

under load it may drop to the high 13s but as long as it bounces back to the 14.4 you will be fine

if you start seeing 12s or lower, your electrical system needs more power

Edit: All the OEM replacements for the alternator on the 4.0L are 90amps so I'd say that's what yours is.

I am running 1500 watts + 320 watt to the doors off stock 80 amp alt, redtop under the hood, 55ah in trunk, big three grounds in 0 awg db link, big three alt to redtop in 2/0, and 1 run of 2/0 from front to back. My voltage rests at idle ~14.1-14.2 and dips into the mid 11's full tilt. Hope this gives you some idea of what your lookin at. I'd say upgrade your front batt to Optima or equivalent and 2 100ah in the back (I will be upgrading my 55ah to 100ah soon) and you should be ok. The only thing a HO alt really does is take some of the load off your batts and charge them a little faster.

I have the same power from my amps, but my voltage stays at 13.8 v. It never goes down, unless I use the A/C (can go down to 13.3v, at iddle). Highest voltage I can see is 14.13v after starting the engine on the morning. It's a 2-year car/stock battery.

I have 0 ga from batt to the amps in the back, 0 ga for ground on batt and a bigger(than 0 ga) wire for engine block to ground. the big3 is not complete yet !

Each car is different. You must know how do yours react.

So, instal everything first and watch your voltage. You will buy the second battery later.

just my 2 cents.
