New alternator or what?

Recommended Posts

I have a 2006 Nissan Sentra (1.8L) that has the stock alternator putting out 80 amps.

I am looking to soon be running 1200 watts RMS through the system.

I know I will have to do SOMETHING with the electrical system. But what?

New alternator? Extra battery? (Big three is a given)

If new alternator, would the one in the link below be suffice? (20 extra amps)

do you get a lot of voltage drop? you don't need another alternator unless your current alt is dying. I wouldn't buy that. Trust me. I have been there. They do less at idle than stock. an extra battery will be more than enough if you have voltage drops.

Not sure about voltage drop. Though I do have very minor light dim when a note hits hard in my current system (300 watts RMS -_-)

do little by little first. upgrade your wiring and then see what happens. get a DMM and check your voltage. everyone in car audio needs a dmm.

And what should I look for? And what to do if I start seeing bad things?

He already stated "Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical. "

This isn't Fi related... It's about your electrical...

P.S if you buy a cheap sh*t alt, not only will it most likely be worse then oem, but it'll fail from all the stress. Buy a decent aftermarket alt or don't buy one at all.

I suggest adding a battery or two as well, this will take some stress off the alt...

Sorry about that. Since Fi is what I'm planning on purchasing this is where I assumed to go.

I'll know next time.

Thanks for the tips also.
