Building a box for my Icon..help!

Recommended Posts

hey all my name is Andrew and im new here. i recently purchased a 12'' ssa icon d2 and a us amps xt1600.2. i am looking to build a box for it and had some questions...i am using the re audio box calculator and am looking for a tuning frequency of around 27-30hz. i have been messing around with the calculator and came up with a box that is 28'' wide, 14'' tall, and 18'' deep. port width is 2'' and the 1st port length is 15.25''. the 2nd port length is 8''. the overall ft^3 is 2.763 and the tuning is 27.98hz. does this sound like an ok design? i have heard that a port width of 2'' could possibly cause some port noise? also i was wondering if it mattered where i mounted the sub...instead of the front i want to mount it on top of the box, would this change anything? any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! thanks! also i am making it out of .75'' mdf.

27 is a bit low unless you are dead sure that is what you like.. For me I know Icons and I perfer as low as possible but for most thier hearts are set around 30 - 33 hrz to have decent output as well as lows!!! Port noise will come from an undersized port let me get you some numbers realy quick to help you out.

Ok plug in a couple of numbers and you will want around 35 to 40sqin of port so when you design it via re audio calculator check what you sqaure inchs of port is and adjust it acordingly. If you going for lows go as big as possible. So 2.0 2.5 cubes would set you good....
