I have heard that mounting a 15" subwoofer (btl) in a car will be louder, or at least shake more, if it is facing up rather than back. does anyone have any experience or insight on this topic?

That is something that will be install specific. Everything from type of subs, how much rms you have, what type of enclosure you use, to what type of vehicle you have will play a factor in the sound and loudness of the system. There are a few rules of thumb such as subs up port back is generally the loudest setup for an SUV and facing a subs and port forward with the seat down and sealing the trunk off will be louder in a car than a regurlar box in trunk. The only way to find out is to do it and see if it works then post your results here so we can all share the knowledge. 10ths of DBZ are gained this way everyday. Hope this helps.

i removed my backseat and had a board bolted in its place and had my box mounted to it with my fosgate power hx2 facing up. and it shook the hell out of my car until i double baffled my box. it also did the same facing foward toward the windshield. i have since moved it to the trunk and bolted it down and the the rear end of my car flexs and shakes. not so much in the front half tho

Thanks for the input. I just recently pointed my 2 10" subwoofers up and it hit some notes WAY harder and others stayed about the same. i think i will be facing the 15" BTL i will soon be buying up with the port back. how was the volume on each of your positionings?
