i swear i can never make up my mind...

Recommended Posts

so i was searchin around on another forum i go to and i found where dayton just released a new driver. it is their reference series. well recently i had planned on buying a RL-p but i realized i couldnt afford it. so then i decided on an RL-i 10, but now for about $50 less i can get one of these daytona drivers. here is the link:

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cf...tnumber=295-464

i was just curious if i would be happy with one of these. i plan on gettin 1 10" whether i go with the dayton or the Rl-i and i will be giving it 400 watts. i mainly want SQ, i want to hit every note, hit it hard, and hit low, loudness isnt much of a factor. i would be perfectly happy with 120-130ish dB's. any help or advice is appreciated. thanks

sealed will have better power handaling & wider range of Freq: response if ya wanna go Low ill need the T/S to help design you a box :D

i figure the average air space for a 10" is 0.5cf to as much as 1.5cf so if you want lower notes go for a larger box !

let me know if i can help

i'd recommedn the rl-i and here's why..

that dayton is optimized for h/t use, hence the hint at needing a large enclosure. while i'm sure it'll work just fine in car, that's not what it was built for.

the rl-i was. and it'll go low without a huge box. my rl-i8 getts extremely low in just .17ft^3 sealed in h/t use. it's an amazing little woofer.

in the end, it's up to you. while i won't dog dayton's quality or sound, i doubt PE will keep with mike's customer service. and i really believe the rl-i will more then hold it's own against the larger dayton.

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :slayer:

Dayton always has good drivers, but IMO, the driver is new and unproven. With PE's rep in the DIY world, you can guarantee many people will soon have their hands on these and will be posting enclosures, reviews, and graphs of all kinds. I would wait until seeing all the hard evidence before buying and unproven driver right off the bat. It's cheap, but the RL-I right in line with the pricing and has more than proven itself a tough customer.

My vote goes to the RL-i.

alright, i guess i will just go with my first instinct and go with the Rl-i. im 900% sure i will be happy with it. thanks for all the help. also i will be running the sub at 2 ohms since it is dual 4 ohms, is that ok? anything else i need to know? what is the best sealed size for that amount of power? i was gonna go with about .6 ft^3

I'm considering the Dayton MKIII and High Fidelity subs as well as the RL-P myself. The Daytons are EXCELLENT for car audio. The MKIII hit very very low...around 25Hz in a 2 cu ft ported box. The High Fidelity in a 2 cu ft box hit a little higher around 28 Hz but have more SPL. The HF has a bit less SPL than say an IDMAX or RL-P but it will be cleaner. Dayton is designed for HT, but their subs perform great in smaller car oriented boxes as well. You won't go wrong with one if the RL-P is no longer an option. Pick the MKIII if you want more low end and the HF if you want cleaner and more SPL.

Do a search on sounddomain and you'll find a lot of info about the MKIII and High Fidelity subs.
