Fiber Optics in HU and amps?

Recommended Posts

Anyone have any inside info or guesses as to when car audio manufacturers will be using Toslink cables for connections.

Stepping up from a decent RCA cable to a fiberoptic cable made a noticible differnce in my HT set up.

They already are...in HUs and processors...I'm using optical out from my CarPC to the H700...works great!

Optical cables are cheap...don't know where you got your info from.  http://www.core-sound.com/toslink-cables.html

Got more info on the car PC. Comments on the ups and downs. How about do's and don'ts. I am very interested in this. Thanks.

???

So you want a fiberoptic cable to say "Alpine" on it simply because it has the name on it? I don't think I'm following you...

VIA EPIA M10000 mobo (1ghz imbedded proc., onboard graphics & sound)

512mb ram

DVD/CDRW slot load drive

Chaintech AV-710 soundcard w/optical out

120gb HDD

8" Lilliput touchscreen

M1-atx power supply

They're quite easy to implement into the car...the hardest part I've run into is molding the screen into the dash...apart from that all you have to do is run the wiring, mount the pc case/monitor and voila, done. :)

As Wedge said; Toslink is already in use in the car audio market, and has been for a while.

No..

The connections would be propreitary, kinda like IPBUS, AiNET kinda things

Well, of course it would be expensive...there'd only be one source to get the cable from...the manufacturer.

But that's not what is being discussed here...we're talking about toslink/optical...it's not an exclusive connection, and therefore, relatively cheap...as I have shown with the link provided.
