SA-8 as midbass?

Recommended Posts

Will SA-8's perform well in a sealed box for midbass (80hz-250hz)?

I honestly have no idea what makes for a good midbass driver vs subwoofer.

any input would be appreciated :P

I saw someone on another forum running SA-8's in the doors for midbass, but I think I remember Jacob saying they weren't really made for that.

I'm assuming because the drivers are designed to reproduce lower frequency? Well I'm interested in getting some wicked midbass. Guess I'll go check into j-roadtatts build log :P

well there actually pretty heavy drivers and there rated for 400 rms so i dont think you will be running 400 to each driver just for midbass. The E8 might be better for that

On the previous post talking about having them in the doors, they were most likely a IB setup, so maybe sealed would work?

as for how much power they take, If I ran 800watts for midbass, I'd just have a lot of midbass :P

I'll look into the E8, thanks

They weigh 20lbs a piece as well :)

You can make em' fit. The 20 lbs is only noticable for the first couple days.

I think SA-8 would work great for a midbass. If you like heavy midbass then your on the right path.

I don't think the SA-8 likes being sealed though, SO stick with IB of the door.fing34.gif

hmm, I'll probably put them behind the seats, maybe in small ported enclosures then?

As long as you don't expect output above 200-250 Hz they would work okay as midbass. I think my distributor told me someone is doing it in Russia and they love it.

Would those still need to be ported to be efficiant. I guess tune at a higher freq.?

For mid-bass duty you would be fined sealed or IB on them. If you did port them for midbass tuned high it would be sick.

0.25 tuned to 60 or so... would net a huge amount of output in the lower midbass 50-100 Hz.

Would actually have to purposely EQ them down for a flat response - but most folks like huge midbass output especially when pairing to big woofers.

Okay Im not sure if youll read this Jacob, but you were in so figure its worth a shot.

I ordered some sa12's a few months ago but they got on backorder so I canceled, but they got sent anyway and fedex tried delivering them yesterday but I wasn't here to sign for them.

Mark said you were going to try and get a hold of fedex and have them rerouted back to you. did you ever get a hold of them?

I just want you to get your merchandise back and I'm not sure if Fedex is still trying to deliver them or not.

my address is 7461 e calle iluminacion tucson az 85715 (if this helps)
