Small port, decent TL score (AA SMD)

Recommended Posts

One 15" AA SMD of a Stetsom 7k2e. 4^3 tuned ~31 hz w/ 29 sq in of port in a '09 Yaris Sedan. DC Power 320amp alt, big three, all 1/0 wiring, stock battery.

I just metered tonightat a local shop and put up a 144.4 w/ peak at ~ 41 hz.

My question is "How much would I benefit from more port area? I plan on going from 29 in to 72.5 in

thanks

I am not a box builder, but shouldn't that enclosure have required about 65in. to start with? Good Luck!

You should see a difference. How much? Hard to say.

I would go with about 3.4 cu ft for enclosure volume and tune it to 33-34 hertz, and use about 55-60sq inches of port area.(and face it forward and seal it off.)

You definitely need more port area. I'm with sefugi in that I wonder who told you 29 sq. inches was sufficient in the first place? Though if they're aeroports that helps.

Oh yeah, it's a 6" inch aeroport. I wanted to try something different. The thing is it sounds REALLY musical. I can't do two 6" ports, I don't have the space.

I have a comp on Saturday and plan on doing a SPL box. I'm thinking 3.65^3 @ 40hz w/ 72 inch of port?

Should I tune lower?

Also did my first two beassrace runs in my life (practice) and got perfect 129.9 on the second run w/ Bone - See You At the Crossroads!

I'm not "pissed" but I am a LITTLE let down. I was hoping 145.0 with the gear I have now. Maybe this box and two solid batts will help

have you tested different facing directions? I cannot see you only doing 144. do you know what your vehicle peak really is?

huge part is that little port.. and like phi said.. change the fire direction around and see what plays better for SPL and ami reading that right? you only have a h/o alt... no aftermarket cells???

if not i bet your clipping the shit out of that amp... more cells are in order....

I've had other configurations w/ my BL 15 $ JL 1000/1 but not this set up no. I figure walled at the trunk would be best for comps.

I know, I've had tons of people saying I should be close to 150

Yeah, just HO alt. No $ for batteries yet.

Don't know the exact peak of the vehicle.

Moar port FTMFW. I'd go to 902" If I were you.

What I got now is very musical (even at high volume)and I love it as a daily setup.

I just crunched #'s on the torres box calc and I'm gonna go with 3.5^3 tuned to 41.5hz w/ 80 inch of port.

Results on Saturday!

before building a new box with that tuning, seal up the one you got now and see what note you peak at. Then tune it like 3-4hz under it and see what you do. If you're using an aeroport, you can cut it down to change tuning and then just tape it together again if your lower at a lower tuning.

yeah... you better find the actual peak freq before rebuilding... don't tune at the peak exactly... normally a little under..

I wouldn't expect a 150..... not in a trunk car... not without some knowledge of the sport. 147 range is more feisable

and yeah... you've got way too little port... you should use ATLEAST 60in^2

I didn't get to build ^^^ box and it bit me on the butt. Only did a 144.2 at the comp. Got beat by a guy w/ a Orion D2400 and HCCA 15". He was in a 90's explorer and won class C w/ a 145.3

I clamped the Stetsom at ~ 3000 watts the other night and i'm wondering, would two Kinetik 2000's get me a little more, say..........4000+?

That would be DC Power 320 amp alt and two Kinetik 2000's?

i dont know jack bout upgrading electrical cause i havent had the cash to do it yet, but considering all you have is a h/o alt and stock battery i'd say adding two kinetiks would help alot. you gonna run one kinetik under the hood n one in rear? or both in rear and leave stock batt up front?
