Digital Media Recievers

Recommended Posts

What do you guys think about these kinds of head units?

I was looking at getting the pioneer MVH-p8200 which features wise is pucking badass but what about performance wise?

I see it only has 2v pre outs. I haven't seen another digital media reciever with anything higher.

I have yet to see a Pioneer receiver, but I have taken a liking to the Kenwood KIV-BT900. We have one in the store and I've messed around with it and its great. Plus it has bluetooth built in if you're looking for that.

But personally, I wouldn't be looking for a Media receiver because quite frankly, I'm not ready to give up my CD player yet. On top of that, these receivers cost just as much as a nice CD player if not more, so I ask why.

im using an alpine IXA-W404 at the moment and i have no complaints. on my last cd player i used the ipod hookup most of the time anyway. the menus are easy to navigate so its just like working an ipod. i honestly havent bought a CD in a long time so moving on to a digital media receiver didnt really bother me at all. i never have to worry about a scratched cd ever again, or worse, the cd player skipping in the spl lane.

and dont let 2v outputs deter you from a radio. they work just fine and if you really need more voltage you can get a line driver

I had (has) a alpine media reciever, and the rule. I never use CDs because I have a 32gb iPhone. I would suggest them, they take anything formatted in fat32 so that means hdd's, most mp3 players(except zune because zune isn't fat32), large flash drives, etc. I would suggest getting one, they're much cheaper and you tend to get more features for less.

My friend has the ixa-w404 in his civic and loves it. I have an ixa-w407 i'm waiting to install. My last deck was a cda-9886 and i never used the cd player. Also if your worried about preout voltage. Get the pxa-h100 and use it with any of the high end alpine media decks. It gives you 4v preouts and the ability to run active, and autotune using imprint if you want.

i went with the ixa-w404 because its double din, has a screen and buttons. i dont like those full face screens where everything has to be done via touch screen. im old school, gimme buttons, knobs and sliders.

anyhoo, the w404 apparently wasnt a big seller and ive seen some places clear it out already. last place had it for $199, which is a lot less than i paid for it.

See that's what I like. Especially in the MVH-P8200 http://www.dealercostcaraudio.com/pioneermvh-p8200.aspx is that they took out the cd feature and made the screen bigger and it can play music videos and movies straight off your iPod.

Watching a movies/ music videos on a screen that small is PAINFUL! but i love my media receiver, a lot. I will own another one and wont ever regret it.

I have the kenwood excelon 993, which isn't strictly a media receiver, but it does have most of the features of one including usb, aux, bluetooth. I have to say, I never use the CD player in it, partly because it skips with loud enough bass, but mostly because I have a 16gb flashdrive hooked up through usb to hold all of my music. It works great.
