Looking for the right setup

Recommended Posts

Alright so a while ago I was looking around for a subwoofer to fit my needs but I also wanted something that would be quality that I could put in my next car and be happy with for a long time. Then someone suggested soundsplinter, I took a look and decided that these are for me. So now im trying to find the right setup. I was thinking one 12 inch driver would be about right for me. So now comes the part deciding what to get with it. Im looking to spend no more than 400-500 tops. I was wondering what would be a good amp for this sub? I understand that it can handle a lot of power but I'm not sure I need A LOT. Also what kind of box would be right for this? I want to keep things on the small side also so I can still fit a lot of stuff in my trunk. I listen to a lot of rap and rock will this sub hit pretty hard? I'm sure it will with the right components so can you guys help me out? Thanks

P.S. Someone suggested a Phoenix Gold Xenon amp are those any good?

Hey, i'm kinda new to all of this too. Sombody suggested for me to get a directed audio 1500d. You can get a refurbished one for about 160 or so. They said to wire it at 2 ohms. That is 800w rms, which should be plenty to drive the subwoofer. But then, i'm not an expert by any means. Maybe somebody else can get on here and tell us both what to get.

Get clean power, this sub does not like clipping. I run 1200 daily, but anywhere from 600-1200 with well adjusted gains will get you started. Check out some of Zed's stuff, kicker is good (cheap on U-bid), PG is good, just get a clean amp and do it justice.

BTW Welcome aboard and we like pics :D

Welcome to the best audio forum on the 'net.. maybe not the busiest - but there are some damn fine people here to be sure! biggrin.gif

So far as an amplifier is concerned - anything that is going to feed an RL-p between 500-800 watts at 2ohms would be perfect. eD's Nine.1 has been a popular candidate, and HiFonics & Orion offer good value as well. I believe our brother forum Zed Audio's lineup includes a suitable 600 watt amplifier too! Check out Used Car Audio classifieds, eBay, and all that jazz...

For hard-hitting and space-saving bass with an RL-p12, I would suggest a 1.4 cu ft gross internal volume sealed enclosure. You might also find that you like anywhere from 1.5 - 2.2 lbs of polyfill inside the enclosure to help boost your output.

If you want someone to look over your plans, keep posting! grin2.gif

welcome to the site, excellent choice on sub,

If you are pinched for money and want great power for the dollar, look for a Kicker KX 600.1 on ubid or ebay,
