I'm asking what your typical download rate is when you're actually downloading something, not on a speed test ...

The number in the AIM get file thing were it says "transfer rate" ?

Between 37-42 KB/sec for some people, others upwards of 127 KB/sec. Seems pretty piss poor to me. Around 45 minutes for 105, 000 KB

I used to get an even 40kbps but now it just slows down.

i have never gotten 127kbps, thats fast !

Get 70-120 kbps off of mIRC ... not fast.

I don't understand that NewsBin Pro, newsgroups, etc stuff at all ... and it's 5x faster than what I'm doing now.

Newsgroups are great ... Unlike bittorrents and other P2P programs, you're not limited by the people you're downloading from, so you can easily use your connection's full potential. Also, if it's not a popular file you're trying to get, it'll take forever to get through a P2P program.

Newsgroups - 500-640 KB/s

Popular Torrent - 200-600 KB/s

Typical Torrent - 100-400 KB/s

Unpopular Torrent - 10-100 KB/s

mIRC - 30-250 KB/s

P2P (WinMX, Ares, etc.) - 10-300 KB/s

2005-09-06 10:33:25 EST: 1275 / 831

Your download speed : 1306261 bps, or 1275 kbps.

A 159.4 KB/sec transfer rate.

Your upload speed : 851669 bps, or 831 kbps.

again, i generally see 5-600 down for a torrent, or reg. file dl.

mater of fact, i have the cable company coming out tomorrow to replace the lines in & out of the house from the pole. out connectivity takes a chit once a week or more.

Yeah, Shaw ...

Telus wasn't even that good before the strike ...

Did removing those startup programs help any, Steve ?

I should look into Shaw then.

I haven't really noticed a huge difference in performance after removing those programs ... however, startup seems to run more smoothly.

6.0 Mbps download and 800 Kbps upload is $50 including modem rental.

We are VIP members so we get liek 15% and something off. So really we pay like $39-40 for a 3Mbps. I perosnaly prefer Bell Sympatico and they cost same but isn't available in my area. But 1km it is. It's weird. We have TV cable, digital cable, internet cable and mobile phones with Cable so it's worth staying with them.
