Semi Wall or Upfiring

Recommended Posts

Vehicle is 2door hardtop jeep wrangler.

I'm going to put 4 12" icons in, I can either have the drivers face towards the dash or up, port can face any direction (guessing i'll do rear, but perhaps front would be better for semi wall?).

If I have the drivers facing the front towards dash, the box will not be a wall (there'll be ~15 inches on sides and top, around the box).

This is what I was envisioning for upfiring, or just rotated and move port for front firing.

Also, The box will be directly behind driver and passenger seats, and will have about 15inchs of space from rear of box to tailgate (gotta have some storage :P)

Face the port back! Design looks good!

thanks, this is what I first came up with for upfiring, although front firing would have same dimensions just port moved.

Most suv's tend to be louder with subs up port back! But both designs look good!

I'm kinda thinking about facing them forward and making the length shorter so I have more space in the back... Will it make a difference if the port is facing back but 20inchs away from tailgate vs it being 10inchs away? (general question)

thanks for the help.

What program did you use to texture that model with an image?

Now im kinda leaning towards something like this:

fronts.png

9.3cuft before sub displacement (~.64), then bracing. so it would still be a little more then minimum recommendation for 4 icons (12")

Is center of gravity an issue with the vehicle? As going with a semi wall will raise it up a bunch.

shouldn't be an issue. I'm concerned that if the box is in the center of the vehicle and firing forward that it may not sound as well as firing upward. Whats your opinion? port direction? :P

Latest mockup for front firing:

Anyone have any thoughts on downfiring instead? Couple people I talked to earlier were against it... the drivers would be able to unload on flat metal, or I could build a false floor...

I wouldnt waste my time with a "semi" wall, walls really lose effectiveness when they arent completely walled off, for most SUV types, subs up port low and back is best, hope that helps

Thanks Josh for the input, I'm going to do a downfire setup, reason is I need the space, and read a couple posts about people getting better results in my vehicle (jeep wrangler) with downfiring vs sub up port back
