sure, Polk is based right near me, but I think these are 2003 models, but then I could be wrong,

2004

Summary:

I just had a pair of Polk Audio R30 towers delivered for $49.99 each + shipping from Outpost.com. I connected them to both a Harmon-Kardon HK 3480 receiver and Hafler DH-220 power amplifier and listed to them with a variety of sources including Scott Ross

I agree with Kent...for a budget of $50, I could think of better options.

Single 4.5" Fostex drivers in a transmission line? Maybe less power handling, but would be very reasonable in price. And a midrange to die for.

I bet most people that have the know-how or persistence to get the know-how to build a Voight pipe already have screws and glue at home :)

and even if they don't, that's roughly $40 for material..not too bad.

in my case, i already had everything here at the house...so if i want to get technical, here's the run down on cost for my boy's bookshelves...

2 terminal cups @ $.88 each= $1.76

2 1.5" port tubes @ $.40 each= $.80

2 hi fi fabric dome tweeters @ $8.73 each= $17.46

2 dayton 7" alum cone woofers @ $18.15 each= $36.30

shipping from ohio,IIRC = $10.10

grand total= $66.42

if u want, toss in $50 for wood, screws, glue and stain and the total is $116.42....or $58.21 a cabinet. which is probably a lil cheaper then those polk ones when u consider shipping.

now, i didn't pay for my crossovers, which would add around $20, figuring high, per cabinet. but u have custom built cabinets compared to mass produced ones...and if u go the route jim suggested, using full range drivers, u don't need the crossover....so money will be saved...

but then again, not everyone can build stuff...or else there wouldn't be a need for mass produced, prefabbed anything...

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :slayer:

And even then.....sometimes those of us who can build stuff simply don't have the motivation to build stuff
