Ok, yesterday, I rearranged some things behind my head unit, which was working fine. I put everything back and the HU was working fine. After putting my dash back together I was planning on going to my friends apartment, but when I go to turn on the headlights a fuse blows and my dash lights cut out. I try replacing the fuse and when it blows again I check a few things and say screw it and go inside. CD player still works fine.

Today I test things out better. I figured out that when the HU was not wired up the problem does not exist. When I plug the HU back in the fuse blows and such. As a matther of fact the voltage at the battery (all wires still connected) I get 56volts. If I then unplug the HU the voltage stays high for a few minutes then returns to normal.

Best as I can tell the only thing that the high voltage hurt was the fuse for my taillights/dashlights, everything else ran as usual. This has me seriously stumped.

The HU is a Alpine 9835 BTW.

What should I check/try? Bring it.

Thing that is confusing me so much is that I didn't change the wiring at all, I just unplugged the harness and moved stuff around, then plugged it back in. I don't even know where to begin really.

Something is wrong with the meter as well. No wway it could possibly read 56 volts. If it is, something is wrong with it.

If you were seeing a true 56 volts, your vehicle would be black and crispy by now.

Thats not even possible to get 56V out of a 12V battery.

well, I couldn't find out what the voltage really is... cause the way I installed the headunit the last time fixed it, so today after work I'll be soldering/heatshrinking all connections, then I'll wrap the whole harness with e-tape to prevent anything from touching anything. Then I'll see if I can manage to blow that damn fuse, if not I'll know I've done it right.

No, but all the other accesories, alt, caps, etc. . . . could be sending voltage back through. ;)

HU is now 100% properly installed. If something else goes wrong with it, I know this really, REALLY gay kid... name starts with an 'N'... ends in an 'oah'...

anyway he's got a 'special edition' type mortar ;) that I'd be more than willing to introduce to my dashboard.
