2nd Gen Vs 3rd Gen proto...winner by KO

Recommended Posts

here's the setup

Galant

HU-8443=crossed over at 90hz at the XM6-

Amp for sub-Concept CC-D1200 wired to 1ohm- gain is somewhere at 20-25%

Box- 1.7 cu ft sealed

Tracks used-

Perfect Circle- Lullaby, Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rythm of the war drum, When the Levee Breaks

Craig Armstrong- This Love, Houses in Motion, The Ball

Metallica- pretty much the entire Justice for All CD

Jay Z- Black Album

Bass Tracks- Nick i can't remember where you said that one track was from but i used that one

30 Seconds from Mars- some of the tracks, i think its the first track on the CD, i burned it so i don't know.

A- first track- Nothing

Well, i had high expectations, Nick said it was going to awesome and better than the 2nd gen i had. hard to think that you can rework something that i already thought was an incredible versatile sub. Well, put that baby in and BAM!!!!! First track i listened to was the bass track i can't seem to name. Nick said it came from some Boston Acoustic CD i think. Well anyways, it goes pretty darn low on it and the proto, i'm going to say 3G instead of always typing proto, took output to a whole new level. Normally i can turn the volume up to about 54/80 and think i've gone too far. This time i only had the volume at 46 and it hurt. Actually made a new rattle appear on the dash(thanks SI), but it was insane. Nick had said that the sub could go lower and get more output but i didn't expect it to do both at the same time. Definitely louder but i noticed increased output at the lower range. Songs like Jay-Z "justify my Thug", "Lucifer" and "Dirt off your shoulder" were insane on the bass. I hate to call out certain products but can't help this one. 160v.2 ported in 2.2cu ft box didn't sound this loud, especially at low frequencies like this. The thump is hard as crap, made my head hurt. Metallica and Craig Armstrong all did very well. Kick drums on Metallica played like they should and on the double kicks they were great. Craig Armstrong has alot of horns and orchestra stuff and synthesized bass. Even though the 2nd gen and 3G were pretty even on SQ, the output and how low the sub can go was much more noticable on the 3G. Songs like Lullaby that has low bass lines and underlining bass rhythms typically start to mutter the sub into sounding blurry when pushed hard. A certain 15 did that and the 2gen would do it a little when pushed really hard, but the 3G doesn't need to be pushed that hard to achieve such output. Lullaby was insanely loud at 50/80 on volume and i only dared to turn the volume up once i was out of the car. All Perfect Cricle songs did great on it.

And for all those SPL people out there, this sub has lots of potential. I didn't let it loose as its not mine and didn't want to make Nick pissed if i brought him back a burnt up VC but this thing will get low and loud, i'd like to see some db results of it ported. And i still have a headache from listening to it.

Well Nick, i hope to see you at some local comps so we can take a 1-2 for SI and maybe let Freemans have 3rd. They better be on the lookout for this sub. O yeah if you didn't notice the 3G went home the winner.

Lets try this again (this makes the 3rd time trying to reply to this thread).

I find myself saying this a lot, but I told you so. ;) Now take that driver over and make the W7 nervous. :D

We tried keeping the same SQ if not improving it a little bit while giving the driver more low end and a little bit better real-world efficiency (not focusing soley on the 1W/1M figure) and I think we've done that with the new Mag's.

lol...thanks for rubbing it in. You were absolutely right. You did a great job on improving the Mag. it really makes these Viper speakers sound crappy, i need my CDTs back. And yes i hope that i can get my hands on a W7. That would be great!

and i'm sorry, the post would have been little bit more detailed and longer but i think i am getting sick from the heat down here and i have a headache from that and that sub. I tried installing the sub and taking out my Diamond amp and i sweat like a beer mug. Than i was dumb enough to try and play soccer in the heat and i think i just about passed out from the heat...its hot.
