Running Strapped Amps at 1 ohm?

I have a DD 9512 (dual 2 ohm) and two Autotek MM1400.1D's. I wanted to run each amp on each coil at first, but I was told this is actually pretty risky and it is a lot safer to strap the amps together.. The only dilemma is that once strapped.. the amps will only be stable at 2 ohms.. but dual 2 ohm drivers can only be wired to 1 ohm or 4 ohm.. if i can keep the voltage between 13.5 and 14 volts at the amps, will it be safe to put a 1 ohm load on the set of strapped amps?

Even if you could somehow magically keep the voltage above 13v (good luck, you'll need a largish battery), there's no evidence on the web about these things being run at .5 ohms and surviving for any period of time.

Its a cheaper amp. I wouldn't run it lower than 1 ohm. If you feel the need to strap them, strap them at 4 ohms.

Maybe try to sell the MM1400's and find one large amp. :)

Or, strap at 4ohm. Which would put each amp at 2ohm. Which would probably be equal to one of them at 1ohm.

Get a recone to a dual 1 so you can wire to 2 ohms

It's not risky at all to run one amp on each voice coil.

This is true..... I've seen it done several times. The hitch is making sure that you have the output on both amps matched as closely as possible. Which requires a DMM and some patience as you'll have to set your gains together and at every step making sure the voltage matches.

But shouldn't it still be okay once box rise come into affect?

and i'm not sure about putting one amp on each coil because one has been used more than the other..

Battery doesn't has anything to do with keeping the volts above 13V, the alternator does.

If u can't manage to keep the voltage steady at 14V or more at this moment.(without strapping at 1 ohm)

I wouldn't risk it.(but it's you're equipment, do what you want, all we can do is advise. :P)

"at every step".. what does this mean? at every frequency?

I'm sorry, but it certainly does. Most people cannot afford or simply are not able to run multiple large alternators under their hood. So you need a large reserve of batteries to supply the voltage to the amp. The alternator just keeps the batteries charged at that point.

Not to keep it above 13v, never seen a batt that floats above 13v with a load attached to it.

(But more/bigger batteries do help to keep it above 12V.) :)

EDIT:( i would like to see a non 16v batt to float above 13v, i have never seen it, but doesn't means it doesn't exists)

The knowledgeable members in your other thread told you there was nothing risky about it.

The ONLY risk of damaging something in these two scenarios is by trying to run the amps under their rated impedance, there is absolutely ZERO risk of damaging equipment running one amp per coil.
