i am about to attempt to build my first box for my two db drive platinum 12s and a few friends have been telling me that a down fire box would be the way to go I am wondering if it really makes any difference in the bass level or spl I also planning on porting the box but I'm not sure where the best location for the port would be I'm new to all this when it comes to fabricating an enclosure. Its going to be about a 4 cubic foot box in an extended cab s10 with the port tuned to around 32-35 hertz. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Build a false floor for it to load against instead of the carpet floor.

Gotta test, down firing in trucks normally is successful though.

aiming a sub

the above link may help. also in regards to downfiring subs, this may also help:

Percentage of Sag = 24,849 / ( Xmax * Fs²)

If Sag% < 5%, the driver may be mounted down (or up) firing. (Xmax in milimeters.)

downfiring works well in SUVs and sedans generally. just use legs or similar design to elevate the box about 6" off the floor of the vehicle.

when you say build a false floor you mean like mount my subs in the box and have a panel over them leaving a little gap for the sound to escape from right so it would act similar to a port in directing it out and not into the carpet where its gonna get sucked up and loose response? would it make any difference where the port was located if i port it?

No, they mean build a floor for the box to sit on and fire the woofers up or forward......

when he mentioned building the false floor it was for the subs to load against instead of the carpet. I'm looking at going down fire so the subs firing into the carpet is gonna be counter productive. The one person that mentioned the xmax sag was saying fire them forward or up they fire forward right now but its right in my seat and head. One of my friends ran a down fire set up with three twelves a while back in a square body s10 and it did pretty well

I see that now, I'm just recommending from past experience with S-10's that you don't do down fire.

Subs forward behind passenger, port up behind driver. Will get very loud and sounds good.
