Project Kill Them All

Recommended Posts

Thought "sound deadening pics" sounded a little boring.....so, I'll name this project Kill Them All (referring to resonances, vibrations and sound waves). I'm corny. I know, and I don't care.

Anyways; part one of my four part sound deadening endeavor is finally complete, with a good amount of assistance from Dave (audiolife).

Shot of the rear seats (well, where they should be) and rear floor. Mat used here was SecondSkin Damplifier (thanks Nick!!). Two layers everywhere:

Here's a shot of the front floorboard. Mat used here was Raammat 60 v2. Again, 2 layers everywhere. But, since I overlaped like crazy up here there is really more like 3 layers:

And, that's where I'm at so far. There is also 1 layer on the rear deck, one layer throughout the entire trunk, and 2-3 layers on the outter doorskin of the front doors.

Part II, which I'm hoping will be done by the end of this weekend will consist of spreading 5ga of SecondSkin Spectrum everywhere throughout the entire vehicle; top to bottom and front to back. Started working on that tonight, got most of the rear floor area done.

Part III will be installing atleast 100sqft of Ensolite closed cell foam. Plan on 2-3 layers on the floor, 1.5 layers on the roof and 2 or so layers in each door.

Part IV will be all 4 door panels, rear doors and various panels as needed.

This is the first time I've really went all out on deadening and did the entire car as it should be. So, I'm pretty stoked, excited and dare I say....proud. Unfortuntely, however, none of those emotions can trump my primary trait; procrastination.....otherwise I'd probably by done by now :P My main goal here is to decrease road noise as absolutely much as possible, and to kill as much panel resonances as possible.

So, more pics as more work gets accomplished. We'll see how the end result turns out :woot:

damn squeak....that's alot of sound deadning...

as to the roof and door panels (or anywhere where the plastic has to go back on)...with all that deadning, any issues putting the panels back on?

can't wait for more pics!

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :slayer:

Thanks guys!!

I plan on also starting a worklog when I start the speaker install. As you may or may not know; I had to ixnay the horn and 10" mid plans because, well....I'm broke, and need the money back in my pocketbook.

But, don't fret. Again with the assistance of Dave (audiolife), I have a pretty trick and "old school" 3-way active frontstage planned. And as such, I'll probably wait and show pics of the finished work before I show the work-in-progess pics B) Should be pretty slick when we're all done.

Shouldn't be. Only thing that could cause a problem would be the Ensolite. But, my door panels are deep enough that it shouldn't pose a problem at all.

Looks great so far.

Wish I had the time/effort/cash/patience to do an entire car properly.

From Rick at Raammat: www.raamaudio.com

sell the horns yet?

Not yet. Haven't officially put them on the market. But, decision has been made; they gotta go.

cant believe you're ditching the horn crew.

Yeah, me neither :( :( Honestly, I'll love no other speaker like I loved my horns. But, maybe in the future I'll be able to pick up some horns again. Gives me something to look forward too.

Plus, this "budget" setup I have in the works now should still sound superb. So, all is not lost I guess :fing34:

thanks for the raammat link. ensolite is rather nicely priced, i'll have to pick some up :)

one thing that annoys me about deadening is that my door is now so heavy that i always have to close the door twice to get it to click. o well :D
