Could you guys help me with this.

Recommended Posts

Their is going to be a sound comp in my city on June 12th. They have a meter. But they want to use two of their random songs they pick for spl and sq. It's understandable for the sq part of the sound off. But the same song for the spl part? I want to use tones. They are just going to pick music. Which if the song has a 30hz bass line. If I'm tuned to 40hz and play it, my subsonic filter would just cut it out.

One guy said "Thats not how it works at a normal sound off. Everyone uses the same track. That's how it's been at every other sound-off I have attended. this isn't my first."

What should I say?

I don't think they will even tell me the random ass song they are going to use. If I'm tuned high my subsonic filter will cut the bass out. They said the song they picked has alot of low end bass.

But these guys running it are noobs and just told me the song will have lots of low bass on it. They won't let us know what songs are picked. I told them I could supply a official USACi CD.

Then another guy said: "chances are that it will be a disk from the judge not a competitor.just like all other comps"

But there is no one up here that knows anything about car audio. They think JL audio is the best and stuff. So if I know my setup is louder then the other guys. But I lose because of my subsonic filter wtf.

well most test songs are from 30-45 hz

doesn't sound fair to me. I'd just not go because there are too many variables involved to determine a winner.

Someone who is louder at one note won't be at another.

How would I get them to use tones or something though? Like this is the only sound off up here sadly. That's why I want to go. This guy is saying he went to these random sound comps. They use their same song for every car. And this wasn't his first. I know he hasn't been to any sanctioned events like USACi or anything. I was thinking to maybe give him the rules for a actual sanctioned event?

That's just retarted not using a song that will make out the most of your system.

Same thing with EMMA here. Their song again....they even make you turn off your engine(the rules are old and they used to compete indoor, so engines were off due to exhausts).

If can you can figure out the song maybe someone can push in some tones in it. I think this is actually why shizzzon asked you. :)

That's what I was thinking. But I only could play ipod as well. They said no one could use their ipods for it and only use their disk provided. Like they said people will have a advantage using a ipod. Another thing that pisses me off. most people skip like crazy.

How could I do that?

I am going to make them switch the rules for this. I don't care about the sq part since it will be obvious who will sound better. I'm just pissed on how these guys think they know how to run this. They have no experience. Just saying they went to sound comps. But they were no name sound comps. Not sponsored or anything. I am going to use my ipod either way.

I also know I should win either way. If I get my stuff before June 12th. I'm going to be running 4k rms. No one up here in Northern BC Canada has a system with that much wattage. People here are running around 1k to probably 2k rms here on mainstream subs on prefab boxes and shitty custom ones they built.

Just out of curiosity, but what subs and amp are you using that will be doing 4k rms?

Really.. well tell him this since this is taken directly from IASCA-

any commercially available CD that contains musical tracks or test tone tracks can be used to compete at Single Point (SPE) events. The official IASCA “Max dB2” CD is the required judging software at DPE (Double Point Event) or TKE (Territorial Key Event) events.

That means if they have to supply the disc, THEY MUST let you know what the disc(s) is\are so you can find out what song you would like to use so u can tune for it.

yeah I'm probably going to be tuned low anyway. Like 30-35hz. Box is gonna be made by Pound that sound. So it will be good either way.

I just added the db drag rules. Owner from next city is lending us the meter. He used to do db drag in the early 2000's.

said this :

"not iasca. DB Drag yes. Scott from sight and sound said he used to do db drag there. I think it will be easier just to let him be the judge.

he probably would know these rules: dBDRA Rules - Master Index

The program material may consist of music, test tones, or any other type of recorded audio signal."

I don't care anymore this comp is hideous. He just told me if they don't like it, don't show up. Well since there's not many systems in my town only the judge and sponsors will show up lol. I know every person that has a system in my town. I told them about this and they are not interested in it anymore either. They said they are doing it this one song for spl way so they don't get people complaining and it's fair. Well it looks to me that a ton are complaining on how they are doing it because it's bs. And they don't care about are opinions on how to make it better. I could have 12 cars show up or tell them not to because it's gonna suck.

Sometimes best way to deal with BS is to ignore it. :)

I say you and your friends buy a SPL meter and make your own competition. It wont be something special(who knows it may be the start of something good) but at least you will be making the rules and you will be with all your friends having fun.

There is a thread here for a SPL meter way cheaper than TermLab. If you go with the cheapest version it will be like 30 $ from 10 guys = 300$. :)

Only thing it will probably be quite a bit to ship here. I almost bought a termlab awhile back for myself. So I could tune and just get louder.
