ETA on sundown e8v.2 + general/technical questions

Recommended Posts

I have the original motors and I wanted to know a few things about these puppies.

1) Are the new motors deeper (or any different at all?) allowing the coil more travel or are they close to the original E8, as I've bottomed these out and cause several mechanical failures (I will take this into consideration when I build my next box, 8-16 will be powered by a single 3000D, re-enforce the spiders, ect., design the box to prevent bottoming out, i always set subsonic, but love low extension and will likely be tuning low)

2) The spiders are wider, about all I know, are they stiffer?

3) Is the surround built to handle more travel, is it stiffer?

4) If you happen to have the specs on these with an E8 motor, much appreciated, or the specs on the new ones too.

5) Are the new coils designed to handle more watts, as the old ones were 200 watts rms?

Any other information relative to this, like cutout and size of the speaker with or without gasket, pricing, ect. would be appreciated, thank you! I would like to start designing and building a new box! :)

Ok I found your proto type thread, any other information would be helpful

Really all I need to know is the difference in the motors and how it will affect its performance xmax and BL, power handling ect.

thankyou jacob, that and price eta as well :) If you don't mind!!!!!

Ok So if the e8 v2 top plate is 15 mm and the v1 e8 was 8, there will be a 7mm difference. and I will need to get 7mm worth of washers (x4) and 7mm longer screws in order to align the coil in the motor? washes must be small enough to stay outside of the motor gap and may need to be sanded to achieve 7mm of thickness. I don't know the thread count of the screw but I shouldn't have a problem finding them...?

The recones come as raw parts so you can assemble them to fit the E8 v.1 motor with the correct coil height. I have not done so yet as I don't have E8 v.2 parts in stock - so no specs.

The v.2 coil is actually a few mm shorter to help prevent bottoming out and destruction of soft parts -- xmax is really close, though, due to the taller top plate. Either coil can handle over 200-watts -- but the soft suspension on the v.1 especially was a limiting factor to 200 watts RMS.

As for the spider... it is a little stiffer and also wider.

Surround is designed for less throw but is a rubber material so will not tear. You can see the videos I have up... has plenty of throw -- at excessive power I can reach the basket mechanical limits with it but at that point the rubber is actually stretching a bit. The v.1 surround was too much surround for a small driver so I scaled the roll down alot.

The v.2 motor is stronger than the v.1 as it is slightly larger (not much).

ETA not available just yet.

Thanks jacob, when you do get the raw materials, I'll need to know how to do this, or if you will put them together for a direct replacement.

I'll be waiting for these
