Brahma VS. RL-P

Recommended Posts

This is for SQ/LSQ install in a 2005 Mazda 3. Sub would compliment Alpine Type-X comps in the front getting 100 watts/side. This is directed more towards people with experience with both woofers. Looking at RL-P 12 or 15 or Brahma of same sizes. I have a Tsunami 1100DB for substage. Previously owned eD e12a and wanted something new. Is the 12a based on the same motor as the RL-P? Any comments/info would be greatly appreciated.

while i have zero experience with the brahma, i have plenty with the xxx (and yeah, i know they are different)

if u like the sound of ur e12a, u'll likely like the sound of the rl-p as they are based of the same motor. however, teh rl-p is a tweaked version of the tc9 motor and as such will do differently. the rl-p is a smooth sub that can indeed keep up with the very best in the sq department. it can indeed get loud and gets insanely low, even in smaller enclosures. it does well in both ported and sealed apps and in the proper enclosure can handle ur amp easily (with properly set gains as well)

i would imagine the brahma to have a bit more output potential if it's anything like the xxx. i have read it doesn't quite handle power the way the xxx does, so that would put it quite even with the rl-p in that department. the xxx is a clean sub, but is a touch more finiky with the enclosure. if the brahma behaves similiarly, u'll need a larger sealed or ported box to get the same low end the rl-p will offer.

lastly, budget. teh rl-p is easier on the pocketbook. it also requires a bit less in the power department, though against the brahma, that may be mute as i've read the brahma does great on lower power as well.

customer service will probably be pretty even as well, as adire as some excellent ppl working for them, and mike's at SS is well known.

this is a good one, one i don't envy u of..lol. if price and space is of issue, the rl-p would probably be the better choice. availability(waiting for the sub),space and money no object, the brahma is a great choice.

good luck and i don't believe u'll be disappointed either way!

with two subs that are both very capable, and performance differences are not that much,

price is the deciding factor, if not customer service should be,

SS IMO

Ive heard a 12a, 2 RL-p's sealed and 1 brahma 15 sealed and 2 15's ported.

Only problem was the RL-ps were never turned up because my bro is dumb and wired them into a .5ohm load on a 2ohm amp.

The RL-p just looks better IMO, i was an Adire fan but with the prices they have now...i'll stick to SS.

limited time with both, my friend the same but both of us agree that the Brahma has more low end than the Rl-p and the Rl-p has a better high end extension. The Rl-p was much easier to blend into the rest of the soundstage quite like the ED subs. If you have a good amt of midbass than the Brahma would be our choice. Much like the circumstance we are in now with the Magnum. Magnum is a killer sub in output and SQ but doesn't have as nice of a high end as some of the other subs we've used but since we're upgrading the fronstage to have a hefty amt of midbass the Magnum is our choice. I personally liked the Brahma but only have 30mins with it doesn't give us to accurate description of the subs qualities. IMO, i prefer SS due to Mike being a great guy and the SS subs looking nice with or without a logo and the motor is deadon sexy.

I didn't mention I can get an authorized Brahma 10 for $300 shipped. I don't know about the 12's or 15's, but I'm sure it's not much more.

I ended up finding a Brahma 15 locally. Built a 2.5 cube box last night and working on installing everything now. Still waiting for my Eclipse 8053 to arrive, so I can't hear anything until that's here.
