help on MT10" db drag

Recommended Posts

here in the philippines, there is a 10" challenge for car audio shops..

who ever can make the RE MT10 hit 150+ DB gets another free MT10..

restrictions are:

single MT10" on trunk

1amp

1extra battery

me and other shop owners tried it..

amp used: AAMP monster 5kw

box: tuned @ 45hz

wires: guage 0 stinger wires

extra bat: stinger SPV70

first the MT10

on the term lab it hit 146.2

we tried the same setup on a FI BL fulloption..

on the term lab it hit 148.6

how did this happen?ö?ö?

The BL liked the box and tuning frequency better. Change your box setup for the MT.

What box sizes have you tried ? What car is it ?

Again, change the box. Change the tuning frequency.

You are using different amps, batts and vehicles???? That's going to affect something too bro.

Yea thats really wild numbers with 1 10 !!! great work. :drink40:

Do you think it would help if you changed the tuning up to about 57 htz ?? Just a suggestion ...

fi BL10=150.3-151.0

Different cars so things change a lot.

Especially since it's a trunk car vs a hatch.

What is the peak frequency of both cars ? If the peak frequencies are way different than having both tuned at 45hz is not helping.

Is the trunk sealed off ?

Meter on the dash, car sealed up ?

57hz is too high bro i dont think it would crank up the results, it might even bring it down a little or alot, btw which sub are you referring to? the mt? or the BL?

Meter on the dash, car sealed up ?

both cars are sedans.

both cars only have trunk deadening..

peak frequency im not sure bro,

trunk sealed off? = yes

meter on dash= yes

car sealed= no

we are thinking that the AAMP 5kw we are using is over rated and according to some of my friends, the cleanest power it can produce is atleast 3200 w powering the MT10"

its either that, or we just pushing the Fi a bit too hard than the MT.

we used stinger spv70 on both setups..

i dont know man, maybe we have to break the MT 10" before we make it hit 150+ or spend more

but whats funny is.. we changed the subwoofer.. and used an RE SX10" and it hit 150.4-150.7

i dunno man, maybe we need to use 20 batteries on the MT 10" lol..

hence the MT 10" challenge. :captain:

Have you tried different boxes? As in different cuft, tuning, and port area. I'm no spl expert or anything but everytime I read something about it, it seems these are some of the major factors when adjusting for a higher score.

Well, for some reason I thought the 323 is a hatch...moving on..:P

The bolded part confuses me. You should know that already since you are looking for a peak and measuring the peak. Or do you have an imposed peak frequency as part of the competition rules ?

Build a bigger box, see how the score changes for the same tuning. Then decrease the volume and see how it does with less than 2 cubic feet.

I'd also try the Sundown 4500 on the MT10. If it's the same coil config as the BL10 and the SX10 it's going to be clear if the amp is at fault.

most of the high spl enclosures I've seen has been tuned to 57 htz of higher. playing music through these enclosures will destroy a sub (i've heard). But, competitors looking for that (high) number only go for that 15 second burst anyway. if you look on my truck log on my sig, (page 2) check out the mini msx class escallade Eddie Hill built. The tuning on that thing was 77 htz that hit over 180 db. I'm not sure or the details. but that thing was awesome ..

Tuning is going to be car dependent.

No point in tuning that high if the car peaks for instance at 40hz. I've worked on 2 cars that peaked at 42hz, both were tuned a tad over 42 and one of them was doing 150+ with a single 12.

hmm... its pretty expensive experimenting DB.. lol... i dunno man, we kind gave it a rest for a while, short on funds..

im not sure if a 57hz or higher tuning will bring up the score, but it also might do some damage on the MT (not sure)..

but i am curious if a higher tuning will do the job..

sad to say we are still short on funds to keep experimenting hahaha..

il update you guys soon..

we are still wondering why did the SXX10 or the FI BL got better scores than the MT10

Well it was just a suggestion from watching the spl shows. Please let me know how things work out. :drink40:

One of these days I'd like to build a spl machine. They look like a challenge.

SPL well if your going all out, too expensive, deadening, materials, batteries, reinforcing the car, destroying the car, alternator, recone, wires.. if your going to build one, just to play on DBdrags, dont use an expensive car hahaha.. we try to use here are old broken down cars.. hehehe.. :fing34: really broken down.. we dont even need it to run lol.. as long as the engine starts and electrical are ok, then where good to go.. hahaha if results are good.. THEN we make it presentable and paint it a little.. just a little hehehe..
