ID Max in home application

Sorry this took so long

It's done now

1 12" IDMax in 3.2 tuned to ~24hz

Thanks to Beerman for the calc it worked great

Braced, milkshaken terminal cups, flush mount, double mouting baffle,

rounded edges on everything, small amount of stuffing,

NOTE THIS IS MY SECOND REAL BOX so don't be too harsh.

It sounds great, the only problem is that things inside the house rattle so much it just doesn't sound clean at high volume.

Hm, I can't say that I know what a ABC enclosure is. Are you talking about a horn?

Just for ref I listen to all types of music, the sub will be used in a large room, and the box can't be bigger than (roughly) 40X16x17"

Hey guys, thanks for the help, I'll have to do some research on ABC enclosures (any hints as to how they perform diff than a slot ported enclosure?)

Any hints as to good info on ABC enclosures

I tried a T line with my 8" A/D/S/ 308's and they def go way deeper but I don't think it sounds any better than a ported box. Meaning I dont really want to try a T line for my ID Max.

Denim did you ever build one of those deathboxes or was that someone else?

Screw the intricate enclosures. No need for all that if it's just for HT duty. I fail to see the benefits of a horn or other complex design with the 12" driver. A standard vented enclosure should provide more than enough output, be simple, less time-consuming, and you have more than enough power available to have deafening levels within the house.

Build the box to VAS, tune to FS, should yield and F3 of FS. Couple that with the fact that it will be extremely flat and the lowend will be overwhelming. Won't be great for music, unless you listen to a lot of pipe organs and what not, but for HT, it will excel.

ABC isn't difficult... and allows for very low tuning, with no compromise on the higher octave low frequencies (50-70Hz).

I finally decided on 3.2 tuned to 27 and I used beermans calc to have an easy cut sheet (note I went with the spl enclosure) which gives me a rediculous amount of port area, like 47"^2. I've cut all the pieces and I should start putting it together 2morrow.

My question is how much does smoothing out the port pannels help. Hence they are obviously a 90 deg angle now, if I make them all smooth and put in ramp type things in the corners to offset this will I improve the box noticably?

Box completed (no pics yet bc I'm on a freaking dial up).

General notes

Box turned out well and hefty at 100+lbs with sub

-good bracing

-flush mount

-double .75" mdf for the mouting ring so the screws really get some meat ( I think I will always do this from now on)

tuned around 25-27

Volume 3.2 hypothetically but I used a small amount of stuffing to control resonance (it needed it)

So far I've only played test tones generated through my laptop but this thing gets way loud. It was playing in my garage and it was flexing the wood panneling when the doors were shut, its really funny to play a sweep and listen to different things rattle at different times, its like there is buzzing comming from everywhere. I can't wait to hear it in a house.

Note on the amp for those intersted, it has plenty of power to drive an ID max

once I get some more time with it in a room that is less prone to chit vibrating like hell I'll write more. I'm playing around with taking it down to my boat and seeing how it does off of my Audiobahn 1800d.
