Wiring Help?

I just got my new amp (hifonics bxi 2010d) and wired up, but yet Im getting no sound out put to my subs? :S

I know the amp's getting power because the amp power light is on and the amp lights up blue. The thing that confuses me is that my old amp worked just fine and I go to swap amps hook everything up and yet no sound out put. I have no idea what couldcause this. Anyone know whats going on?

so no output on either amp correct? so there could be an issue with the rca inputs have you looked at the rca or tested them? have you pulled out the h/u to make sure teh rca are plugged in 100% ?

or maybe the wiring to the sub isn't hooked up correctly? short> broken circuit>?

check the terminals (output side) of the amp and see if there any any a/c voltage output by using a dmm

There was sound output with the last amp. I only unhooked the wires and re installed them into my new amp. I checked and made sure all my wires were plugged in not crimped broken etc...

Btw my rca's use the rear 6x9's and an output box for amp signal because I have a factory headunit.

what are you setting your lpf at? also please check the rca simple put a dmm across them and see if you get a voltage reading!

Well i dont have a dmm so i'd have to go buy one, but it looks like I may have to. my lpf is set at around 85

umm dumb question here did you try to play with the gain knob?

I tried adjust the gain knob from the lowest setting all the way to its highest but no luck. When ever I first hook the sub wires into the amp the sub makes an audible click sound for some reason :S

other then that i say check for an input and output voltage reading also check the resistance of the amp you can get a dmm at radio shake for cheap even ask a buddy if they have some.

basically we are trying to narrow out the issues to see if it is a input or output issue. b/c you said it is getting power b/c the lights turn on.

so on the input side if you don't get a reading (while the system is on) then there is an issue with the rca end and not the amp. if you don't get a reading on the output side of the amp (where the speak(s) hook up to) then there is an issue with the amp and further diagnostics is needed!

if you get a voltage reading from both sides of the amp use the dmm in ohm mode and check the resistance of each coil of the sub! and report back!

Alright well I guess im going to be getting a dmm at the store and ill report back with readings in about 30minutes

Both the sub coils are reading at 4ohm and the output side is reading 13v

On the rca side what do i use to measure? i tried touching it with the positive and uding a ground spot and got a crazy ass reading of like -130.

i have the same amp..... where did you set the level knob at...and how are the rest of your setting at??

it came set at like maybe 4 to 5 volts :S

my phase is at 0 degrees

bass eg is 3db

sub sonic is about 20hz

and my lpf is at 90-100hz

If you unhooked your negative cable on your battery when installing the amplifier then make sure you settings on your headunit didnt change and put the subwoofer volume at 0. Check to make sure you plugged the rca's into the input rca jacks and not the output rca jacks on the amp. Couple of simple solutions, hopefully it is nothing major. Where did you get the amp from, was it new or used?'

Turn bass boost off and your subsonic filter up some.

I have a factory headunit, my car doesnt allow for an aftermarket one. SO i have one of those little rca boxes that ties into my rear 6x9's

I got the amp new from hifisoundconnection.com

and I turned the boost off and the other up but yet still nothing

did you feel the subs to see if they are moving at all b/c that happened to me and i just had to turn up the volt setting more

Thats what the problem was, the gain wasn't turned up enough

glad you figured it out good job and like jay-cee said make sure to set the gain correctly with the dmm!!
