sealed freq response on xcon??

I was playing with winisd, and I have heard the xcon's are great in a sealed box, but when i typed in all the correct figures for a sealed box the freq response wasn't flat at all it started to drop at around 80hz and kept going down, but the ported box was flat down to the tuning freq????

What did you use for a Qtc number?

there isn;t a qtc number in winisd pro? theres qts qms and qes

Win ISD is tricky. You only need 3 values in there to correctly design an enclosure. Qts, Vas and Xmax.

the qtc is 0.60

Did you like how it plotted out? Should have a nice bump. A QTC of .707 will generally give a flatter response. The XCON should plot out a nice curve in a sealed box!

The curve down is the F3. Where the speaker starts to roll off naturally in the enclosure!

so how do I know what is perfect? Should I just simply go with what ssa says it should be? or is there something better? I'd like it to have a clean response from 30hz to 90hz, if anything at least 35hz to 90hz

WinISD uses the "Optimum" as to what the speaker would plot out like in a perfect Anechoic Chamber. I would definately go with what SSA recommends! You may want to tune higher than the 29hz you have your existing box at! Personally I like a higher tuning since I listen to mostly Metal!

well i listen to techno which has a lot of bass that range from 30hz to 100hz and I like my subs to reproduce this. My last 15" could reproduce 40hz to 100hz easily tuned to 32hz in a 3.4^3ft . I wanted something with more accuracy and that could hit a little deeper but still hit the mids good to.

I agree with OldSkool_08, I prefer to tune higher and then EQ in some low end depending on the vehicle and what the RTA shows.

but my radio even with how much i love it has no EQ for the sub, it has loudness but that just make it boomy. Plus don't the subs bottom out easy when there playing below tuning? I really like to push my subs.

I would look into going to 4.5ft^3 tuned to 33hz. That would give you a nice bump at tuning + add in cabin gain and the length of the vehicle you drive it should meet your goals. shrug.gif

so for testing reasons, how much 3/4" mdf should I put inb my 4^3ft 29hz box to make it 33-34hz?? I'm not very good at math.

Then use WinISD that calculation is easy.

Also, adding 3/4" mdf is a really slow way to take up volume. Try using something physically larger, but first compute the volume that you need.

***don't expect an anechoic curve to be anything like real world in your car at the same time realize that in house and in car are WAY different in what is required of the enclosure to do the same thing***
